28-year-old Tottenham midfielder who underwent surgery in January, 15 days ahead of his schedule

The Tottenham midfielder underwent hamstring injury in mid-January.

Tottenham Hotspur’s extensive injury list is continuing to pose problems for interim boss Igor Tudor, who has lost all four of his games in charge.

Spurs could be without as many as 11 first-team players for their Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. Micky van de Ven is suspended after getting sent off against Crystal Palace last week, but their problems worsened when Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha clashed heads in an attempt to win the ball in the dying stages of the Champions League game against Atletico Madrid. As a result, the duo have been ruled out for the trip to Liverpool.

James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have not featured at all this season, while there are some injured players with no specific timescale. Rodrigo Bentancur is one of those.

The Uruguayan international has made 20 Premier League appearances this season, but he has been out of action since January due to a hamstring injury. The midfielder underwent hamstring surgery, ruling him out for the foreseeable future. Now, however, there are encouraging signs regarding his recovery.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Rodrigo Bentancur ahead of his recovery schedule

Rodrigo Bentancur’s personal fitness coach, Daniel Fernandez, has provided a detailed update on the midfielder’s situation. Daniel Fernandez explained to Uruguayan radio 100% Deporte that the surgical wound has healed faster than initially expected. The 28-year-old’s rehab is currently around 15 days ahead of the original schedule.

In what feels like a rare positive news on the injury front, Bentancur is healing from his hamstring surgery well and could return to action sooner than initially anticipated. Fernandez adds that his client could be ready to return to light training later this month.

Bentancur was a key player for Thomas Frank’s side before he pulled his hamstring against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in the first week of January. The central midfielder hasn’t featured since then, meaning he is yet to play under Igor Tudor, who has already worked with the South American during his time as an assistant manager at Juventus six years ago.

The experienced Uruguayan’s technical ability, physicality and work rate has been missed by Spurs. Having stepped up his rehab, the focus for all parties now will be on avoiding any setbacks. The medical term must ensure Bentancur is fully fit and running before giving him the green signal to return to competitive action next month.
