Tottenham are all set to be without their key players for the clash against Liverpool on Sunday.
Tottenham are going through the trenches right now as the club fights to maintain its top-flight status this season. Nothing seems to be going in their favour, and the fans are growing tired of the bad luck surrounding the Lilywhites. There is a growing feeling around N17 that the North Londoners could be facing the prospect of relegation, largely due to the ongoing injury crisis at the club and several key players being out of form.
Igor Tudor is facing an uphill battle to steady the ship at N17. The Croatian tactician is known for fighting fires and helping clubs navigate difficult situations. But it is starting to appear that the job at Hotspur Way may be beyond his capabilities. He is yet to win a game in charge of Spurs, making him the first manager in the club’s 143-year history to lose his opening four matches in charge at N17.
The humiliating defeat against Atletico Madrid summed up Spurs’ season in a nutshell. They are nowhere near their best and are clearly missing several key players during the most crucial phase of the campaign. Their next test comes against Liverpool in the Premier League, and it is fair to say that the heavyweight clash at Anfield is a must-win game for the North Londoners. Lose that, and they could enter the relegation zone by Monday.
Igor Tudor’s worst fears come to life as Tottenham’s injury list grows
Tottenham are hoping to cause an unlikely upset against Liverpool on Sunday. The Lilywhites travel to Anfield this weekend hoping to get their form back on track against the reigning Premier League champions. Having lost their last four matches against the Reds, Spurs fans are unsure whether Igor Tudor’s men will return from Merseyside with all three points.
To make matters worse, Igor Tudor has now provided the latest update on which players will be unavailable for the clash against Arne Slot’s side. Speaking in his pre-match press conference (via Football London), Tudor said,
“No, Romero and Palhinha are out. Micky is out. Bissouma has a problem and Conor [Gallagher] has a fever but we hope he will be ok. We have a lot of problems to make a first XI but that is how it is in this club. It happens all the time. You start to build something then something happens, a red card or three or four injuries. It is very rare and I’ve never seen this in my career. It’s very rare and unusual but we have to accept it and try to change the things you can change.”
Both Joao Palhinha and Cristian Romero are ruled out of the clash against Liverpool after suffering head injuries following a clash of heads in the Champions League. Micky van de Ven has been suspended for the game after picking up a red card against Crystal Palace. Yves Bissouma is dealing with a suspected injury, while Conor Gallagher could miss out due to illness. On top of that, the North Londoners are also without several other first-team players, making it difficult for Igor Tudor to field a strong starting eleven.
Securing a positive result this weekend would be nothing short of a miracle for the Lilywhites. They will need luck on their side and must work tirelessly to pull off a major upset and avoid extending their winless run to 12 matches in the Premier League. Whether Igor Tudor can work his magic and return to N17 with all three points remains to be seen.
