Dominic Solanke might leave Tottenham at the end of this season.
Tottenham Hotspur have had a goal-scoring problem along the campaign, and this is likely going to force the chiefs at Hotspur Way to dip into the market to look for a possible solution.
But while the Lilywhites look for an external solution, other clubs have been vouching for possibilities to sign the ones already at Hotspur Way. And among them is Newcastle United.
Eddie Howe & Co. have been backed to sign Tottenham #9 Dominic Solanke as they look to strengthen their front line next summer.
The former Bournemouth star is seen as an upgrade to current Newcastle centre forward Nick Woltemade, who has struggled to find his feet at St James’ Park despite his high-profile move to the English shores last summer.
There is a possibility that the German could explore a possible return to the Bundesliga after a sole season in the Premier League.
Keith Wyness backs Solanke to succeed at Newcastle
And Keith Wyness, who was a former executive at Aston Villa and Everton, believes that Solanke would be an upgrade to Waltemade in Eddie Howe’s team.
He goes on to insist that Solanke’s previous connection with Howe during the pair’s time at Bournemouth could push the latter to get the best out of him at Newcastle. It is that sort of familiarity which can help unlock Solanke, who has struggled to replicate his form of Vitality Stadium at N17.
Speaking on the latest edition of the Inside Track podcast, he said:
“Yes, I think he would. I think Eddie Howe would get the best out of him as he’s done before. I think he’s perfect for Newcastle.
“I think with the Woltemade situation, he seems to very unhappy right now. And I would say that Solanke would be a big upgrade compared to Woltemade. And I think working with Eddie Howe would be very good.
“And so, yes, I think that’s something that should be looking to happen as soon as possible for Newcastle. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some deals happening behind the scenes right now. It hasn’t quite worked for Solanke who had a great start, but now he’s sort of tapered off slightly.
“And I think it would do him and Newcastle, the world of good. So I’d say from Newcastle’s point of view, definitely a thumbs up for Solanke.”
Dominic Solanke joins growing list of players linked with Tottenham exit
Solanke did have a strong start to life at Hotspur Way, but that strength that he carried from the Cherries dipped soon, and he started struggling, firstly in front of goal and then with injuries. Many Spurs fans would agree that he has nowhere been near the expectations they had for him when Levy sanctioned his transfer.
Given that Tottenham are in the midst of a difficult season and are fighting that relegation with Igor Tudor scrapping to survive in the English top tier, there have been rumours of a possible summer exodus with multiple players being linked with a Hotspur Way exit. And it looks like Solanke could be one of them on what is a growing list.
Now we will see if the chiefs at N17 would be open to sanctioning his exit in the summer, but a lot could depend on the fee offered and the ifs and buts of Premier League survival.
