Tottenham handed boost in pursuit of 45-year-old manager as sporting director speaks out

Igor Tudor, the interim boss, still remains winless.

Tottenham Hotspur have been in the midst of a managerial nightmare, as relieving Thomas Frank of his duties has not quite worked out well for the Lilywhites, as Igor Tudor continues to suffer in his interim role at Hotspur Way.

Tudor under pressure as Tottenham continue to look for new manager

The Croat was brought in to take charge of proceedings until the end of the campaign, but he has only taken one point since being on the touchline at Tottenham.

Chiefs at N17 would have initially expected him to come in and give that immediate boost that you generally get with a new manager but that was not the case as he suffered four defeats in the first four games he took charge at Tottenham.

Many figured that he would be out the doors after the trip to Anfield Stadium, but Tottenham earned themselves a draw (which was a lot down to his compact tactics), and a senior player at Hotspur Way in Pedro Porro came forward in support of the Croat.

Though all of this doesn’t pry away the focus of the board from looking for a new head coach, be it for the short term or for the long term. And one of the names that have been quite among headlines is that of Robbie Keane, given the success he has enjoyed with Ferencvárosi TC.

Judit Berkesi backs Robbie Keane to join Tottenham

The reports state that the former Lilywhites striker could be well among conversations to take charge at N17 next season. And his current club have now admitted that they would not stand in his way if a big opportunity were to come in for him.

Their sporting director, Judit Berkesi, went on to acknowledge how Ferencvárosi TC would eventually lose out on Robbie if a bigger role became available for him. He has been quite impressive in Hungary, where his reputation has grown, and that has attracted interest from around Europe.

Berkesi went on to insist that Ferencvaros are already used to losing coaches after they develop there and later find bigger opportunities coming their way (like with Tottenham and Robbie Keane).

Speaking to Sportemberk, via Transfer Insider, he said:

“This is actually the club’s merit in this respect, that we are already at a point where we can sell not only players well in certain cases, but also head coaches in the last two cases.

“It is certain that this possibility may also exist with Robbie in certain cases, despite the fact that he feels very good here, can really work in very good conditions, receives all the support that is possible, and the coaches can appreciate this as well.”

It is to be seen where this goes from here. While Robbie Keane is a strong option who already knows the culture at Hotspur Way, he will have to compete with the likes of Roberto de Zerbi and Mauricio Pochettino for the job.
