Tottenham right-back Pedro Porro has been linked with a move away from N17.
In the absence of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, Pedro Porro donned the captain’s armband against Liverpool and helped Tottenham Hotspur grab a valuable point in the Premier League on Sunday.
Starting in his natural right-back position, the Spaniard was one of Spurs’ standout performers. The right-back not only defended well but also contributed to several counter-attacking moves at Anfield. Pedro Porro led the team well, ensuring they didn’t panic after going a goal down via Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick. The team battled hard, kept going until the end and got their reward through Richarlison’s equaliser in the 90th minute.
It hasn’t been an easy season for Porro and his Spurs teammates. The 26-year-old’s performance levels have dipped, perhaps due to playing relentlessly over the last couple of campaigns. Yet, the full-back continues to give his all on the pitch and is determined to help the North London club retain its top-flight status.
Pedro Porro addresses transfer speculation
It is not surprising that Porro has been linked with a move away from N17. Inter Milan have identified the Tottenham star as a potential replacement for Denzel Dumfries. Atletico Madrid have also been showing an interest in the Spanish international.
Ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League second leg of the last-16 tie, Porro was specifically asked whether he would like to return to Spain amid transfer rumours. He responded to Spanish newspaper AS (h/t Sport Witness).
“Right now, I’m not thinking about returning. I’m focused on getting through this, on getting out of it somehow. When you’re young, you dream about the biggest clubs. I’m at one, even though things aren’t going well for us. I’d like to return to Spain someday, also for my family. I hope the door is always open.”
Tottenham want to hand Porro a new contract
Porro is becoming a leader at Spurs. He was one of the few teammates to offer Antonin Kinsky a public show of support after his forgettable Champions League debut against Atletico last week in Madrid. The right-back also backed the under-fire Tudor for getting his tactics spot on at Anfield.
Amid rising interest, recent reports suggest that the Lilywhites would like to offer Porro a new contract and secure his future at the club if they manage to beat the drop. It’d be difficult to persuade him into staying in N17, particularly with plenty of clubs waiting to pounce on the right-back in the event of our unthinkable relegation.
