The 29-year-old Tottenham star is wanted by Inter Milan.

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the appointment of new boss Roberto De Zerbi.

Following Igor Tudor’s departure on Sunday afternoon, the North London club officials stepped up their pursuit of Roberto De Zerbi. It was initially understood that the Italian tactician would prefer to wait until summer to see whether Spurs stay up, as well as assess the managerial market at the end of the season. However, he has had a change of heart and is ready to immediately accept the vacant role at N17.

Tottenham want to build a long-term project under De Zerbi, as demonstrated by their readiness to hand him a five-year contract. This means he will also have a big say on the future of Spurs players, especially the ones who are linked with an exit. One of those is Guglielmo Vicario.

Inter Milan plan to sign Guglielmo Vicario for a paltry €18m

Guglielmo Vicario hasn’t managed to prove himself a reliable pair of hands across three years at White Hart Lane. A series of high-profile mistakes, coupled with inconsistency and lack of command in the box, has led to the fans wanting him gone at the end of the season. Despite all his mistakes in goal, the Italian remains coveted in his homeland.

Inter Milan are keen on securing the services of Vicario. The Serie A side’s sporting director Piero Ausilio recently travelled to London to begin laying the groundwork for the Tottenham No.1’s signing. The 29-year-old is high on Inter Milan’s shortlist to replace Yann Sommer, who is past his prime and out of contract at the end of the season.

Now, there are signs that Inter Milan could try to pluck Vicario away from Tottenham on a cut-price deal. According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Nerazzurri officials are planning to sign Vicario for as little as €18m in the summer. And if the Lilywhites suffer relegation, that valuation could dip further.

Tottenham must demand more for Vicario

Vicario may not have enjoyed a great season in North London, but there is no way of denying that he is an experienced goalkeeper with leadership qualities. At 29, he is about to enter the prime stages of his career, which should bode well for Inter looking for Sommer’s long-term replacement.

Recent reports revealed that the Tottenham custodian was playing with a hernia problem for several months and only last week underwent surgery, which proves the Italy international’s commitment. Considering his European experience, as well as the pedigree of winning the Europa League last season, Vicario is simply being undervalued by Inter.

Tottenham mustn’t allow this to happen and demand for a lot more than a meagre €18m. With the ex-Empoli star contracted until 2029, the North Londoners do have the leverage to make Inter pay more if they are really keen on Vicario’s services.
