Tottenham might not be able to keep hold of their Bundesliga loanee.

Joao Palhinha arrived in North London on loan from Bayern Munich last summer. The 30-year-old Portuguese midfielder made thirty-eight appearances across all competitions this season, and has performed reasonably well. German publication Bild provided a massive update regarding his professional future, and they claim that Tottenham might not be looking to make him a permanent transfer.

Triggering that specific clause requires a fee close to €30 million. The football club faces immense financial uncertainty heading into the upcoming summer transfer window. Committing that incredible figure during an ongoing Premier League relegation dogfight is extremely risky. The complete lack of clarity regarding the next permanent head coach complicates matters heavily.

Bayern Munich will also look to offload Joao Palhinha

Heading back to Germany offers absolutely no salvation for the defensive midfielder. He will go down as a rather disappointing transfer for Bayern Munich. Manager Vincent Kompany firmly believes the player cannot fit his specific tactical system.

He remains officially excluded from the Portuguese national squad. Bayern can resolve his future early this summer. Finding a willing Premier League buyer will remain their absolute priority to offload Palhinha. A sensational return to Craven Cottage presents a highly logical solution. Fulham heavily considered bringing him back during the previous summer window, and it is worth noting that Marco Silva continues to achieve excellent results with the London side.

Dropping into the English Championship would destroy the current Tottenham wage structure. The boardroom simply cannot afford to carry expensive veteran midfielders in the second tier whatsoever.
