Tottenham are planning to bolster their strike department in the summer.
Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new permanent head coach. He has replaced Igor Tudor, who was shown the door after a run of just one win from seven games in all competitions.
Roberto De Zerbi, who was out of work after mutually parting ways with French side Marseille in February, joins the North London club, mired in a Premier League relegation battle, just one point ahead of the bottom three in the table. He has committed to a long-term project at Spurs, as evidenced by a five-year deal, which has no relegation clause.
The Italian’s immediate objective is clear- save Tottenham from relegation. And to aid his cause, he has contacted Italy great Alessandro Nesta to become a part of his backroom staff at White Hart Lane. Having now hired a permanent boss, the N17 chiefs are stepping up their work for the summer transfer window. It looks like they are keen on reinforcing the forward department.
Tottenham closely monitoring Club Brugge starlet
Nicolo Tresoldi has caught the eye of several top clubs with his performances for Club Brugge and Germany’s Under-21 national team.
According to reliable Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany, Tottenham are one of the clubs closely monitoring Nicolo Tresoldi’s progress at Club Brugge. Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are also keeping tabs, while Arsenal have made an enquiry for the 21-year-old. He is currently valued at €25-30 million.
Nicolo Tresoldi swapped Hannover for Club Brugge last year, and he has adapted to the demands of the Belgian Pro League like a duck to water. The German has netted 13 goals in 30 league appearances, whilst also impressing in the Champions League with five goals and two assists in 14 games.
As far as Spurs are concerned, the lack of goals has been a big problem this season. Richarlison has been the club’s top scorer with 10 goals, the only player to hit double figures in the goal column for the Lilywhites. Dominic Solanke has endured another injury-hit campaign, while Randal Kolo Muani has proven to be an underwhelming loan acquisition from PSG.
There is a clear need to reinforce the striker department with fresh and dynamic blood, and Tresoldi fits that bill perfectly. The talented 21-year-old could flourish brilliantly under De Zerbi and develop into a top centre-forward. He’d not be an immediate starter, but with time and experience, Tresoldi could make the No.9 position his at White Hart Lane.
With so many clubs vying for his signature, the Tottenham board must act decisively to secure his signature. Highly-regarded prospects destined to go at the very top rarely join clubs playing in the second-tier of any league. So, the North Londoners must guarantee Premier League safety first, as it would dictate their entire summer’s transfer recruitment strategy.
