New head coach Roberto De Zerbi is expected to lead Tottenham Hotspur’s massive squad revamp in the summer.
Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new permanent head coach. He has replaced Igor Tudor, who mutually parted ways with the club after a run of just one win from seven games in all competitions.
Roberto De Zerbi has pledged to stay at White Hart Lane regardless of what happens with Spurs at the end of the season. This should settle down some nerves of the fanbase, who are dying to see their team get the first league win of 2026.
Having now hired a permanent boss who is expected to play a massive role in rebuilding the squad in the summer, the N17 chiefs are stepping up their work for the summer transfer window. It looks like they are keen on reinforcing the wing department.
Tottenham lead Premier League race for West Ham’s rising star
Spurs’ squad was weakened in the winter transfer window following the shock sale of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace. The club were in hunt to replace Johnson in the squad, but did not manage to find the right fit. Disaster struck when Wilson Odobert sustained a season-ending ACL injury in February, further trimming their options out wide.
Tottenham had explored a January move for West Ham’s rising star, Crysencio Summerville. The diminutive winger has been in fine form for West Ham this season as they aim to secure their top-flight status. With seven goals and four assists in 27 games in all competitions, the Dutchman has attracted interest from several top clubs, including Tottenham.
Now, according to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are leading the pack for the signing of Crysencio Summerville. They potentially view the West Ham winger as ‘a dynamic option to bolster their attacking options for a good fee’, but are set to face strong competition from Premier League rivals Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Brentford, and Everton.
However, interest is not confined to the Premier League. European outfits Marseille, Napoli, Atalanta, and Villarreal are understood to be monitoring the winger’s progress at the London Stadium. The report adds that the Hammers have no intention of selling Summerville if they secure Premier League status, having rejected several approaches in the winter transfer window.
Summerville would be an excellent acquisition for Tottenham
It looks like Spurs are planning to raid West Ham for the second summer running. They convinced Mohammed Kudus to swap the London Stadium for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2025, and before his quad injury, he was the Lilywhites’ chief creator. Now, the Tottenham chiefs have been keeping tabs on Summerville, especially after he singlehandedly ripped Thomas Frank’s side in a West Ham 2-1 win in North London back in January.
At 24, Summerville is still far away from hitting his prime, so he’d be an investment for both present and future. The former Netherlands youth international’s explosive pace, directness, dribbling, willingness to isolate defenders, and ease playing on either flank would give Tottenham options they currently lack. In De Zerbi’s functional system, the fleet-footed attacker could rotate across positions and link up well with creative players without harming the structure.
That said, should Spurs manage to retain their top-flight status, we must definitely test West Ham’s resolve for Summerville in the summer.
