Tottenham have added to Roberto De Zerbi’s backroom staff ahead of the Sunderland game.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently battling to avoid relegation from the Premier League, with the team currently sitting just one point above the relegation zone with seven games remaining, but new boss Roberto De Zerbi is confident he can keep them in the division.
Even though the Italian was initially having reservations about taking the Spurs job in the midst of a relegation dogfight, CEO Vinai Venkatesham and Sporting Director Johan Lange were able to convince him to take the gig immediately and with a futuristic approach. Staying in the top flight is the only objective of Roberto De Zerbi at this moment. But, he needs a strong backroom staff to help him fulfil that objective at White Hart Lane.
The 46-year-old was understood to have reached out to Alessandro Nesta last week to become a part of his coaching staff at Tottenham. However, recent reports suggest the AC Milan great will not join the North London club. Nonetheless, there has finally been a development regarding De Zerbi’s backroom staff.
Tottenham add two fresh faces to Roberto De Zerbi’s backroom staff
Tottenham have officially announced the arrival of Marcattilio Marcattilii as first team fitness coach and Marcello Quinto as senior professional development phase coach. The club has also confirmed assistant Bruno Saltor, who arrived last month after the arrival of Igor Tudor, will stay in N17 alongside Andreas Georgson, Cameron Campbell and Fabian Otte, who all joined in the summer.
Who is Marcattilio Marcattilii?
Marcattilii has been a part of De Zerbi’s coaching setup for more than a decade now. Having started working with De Zerbi in 2015 at Italian side Foggia, Marcattilii has been with the new Spurs boss ever since. He has worked closely with the 46-year-old tactician over the past three years during his time at Brighton and Marseille.
Having joined Spurs as the first-team fitness coach, Marcattilii will be responsible for getting the players fit and ready for the remaining seven games of the season, starting with the trip to Sunderland. As the Lilywhites have been beset by injuries for the second season running, a lot of focus will be on the 52-year-old for the final stretch of games.
Who is Marcello Quinto?
Quinto, like Marcattilii, reunites with De Zerbi at Tottenham after they worked together over the past three years at Brighton and Marseille. Prior to his stints at Brighton and Marseille, Quinto served as an assistant manager of Alberto Aquilani for the Fiorentina Under-19s for two years.
The 40-year-old has been brought in at Spurs as a senior professional development phase coach to work with the youngsters. There are several highly-rated young talents at the club, and it will be interesting to see how they develop under Quinto’s guidance and expertise.
Having assembled his backroom staff, De Zerbi will be desperate to win his first game as Tottenham head coach on Sunday against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
