Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi wants to reunite with a Belgian talent in North London next season.

Tottenham Hotspur are banking on new head coach Roberto De Zerbi to keep them in the Premier League.

Having hired him on a contract until 2031, it is clear for everyone to see that the North Londoners just do not want De Zerbi to maintain their top-flight status. They want the Italian to change the culture, rebuild the squad and get the club back to challenging for trophies and positions higher up the table.

De Zerbi’s sole focus remains on getting positive results and moving his team away from the danger zone. Having worked with several top talents in his previous club, Marseille, the 46-year-old seemingly wants to reunite with one of them in the summer.

Tottenham considering the possibility of signing Marseille midfielder

Tottenham are looking to add midfield reinforcements in the summer as part of their rebuilding strategy. They cannot afford to be reactive in the transfer market and must focus on signing players who can make an immediate impact under De Zerbi.

With Yves Bissouma out of contract this summer, Pape Matar Sarr attracting interest from Turkey and Joao Palhinha’s loan unlikely to be turned into a permanent deal, it is pivotal that the N17 chiefs bring in suitable replacements in the coming months.

According to an exclusive report from SportsBoom, Tottenham are considering making a move for Marseille midfielder Arthur Vermeeren, on loan from RB Leipzig, if they avoid relegation at the end of the season. De Zerbi has requested the Tottenham board to add the Dutchman’s name to their midfield shortlist as he plots a major squad revamp.

Arthur Vermeeren arrived at Marseille on loan from RB Leipzig last year and impressed under De Zerbi. The 21-year-old has made 20 appearances for the French side, registering two assists. The Belgian’s loan spell at the Orange Velodrome expires at the end of the season, but Marseille do have an option to buy him.

The report adds that if Marseille do not intend to sign him permanently, Vermeeren is expected to be available for a paltry £25million should he be deemed surplus to requirements by RB Leipzig.

Arthur Vermeeren would enhance Tottenham’s midfield unit

Having worked with De Zerbi in France, Vermeeren knows the tactical demands of the Italian tactician in and out of possession. The 21-year-old’s passing range, reading of the game, spatial awareness and tactical intelligence make him well-suited to De Zerbi’s possession-based playing style.

The Belgium Under-21 international would represent a notable upgrade on Bissouma and enhance Tottenham’s technical flooring. Playing regularly in the Premier League under De Zerbi could help Vermeeren unlock his true potential. The youngster would also have the opportunity to take on a leading role within the project at Tottenham, something that hasn’t been possible at both RB Leipzig and Atletico Madrid.
