Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by Sunderland.
Roberto De Zerbi’s first game in charge of Tottenham did not go as he would have liked after his side were narrowly beaten by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. The loss has now left them reeling at 18th place, 2 points from safety.
West Ham had beaten Wolves 4-0 earlier this weekend, to move to 17th place. And this weekend was also the first time Tottenham dropped into the relegation zone this season.
Nordi Mukiele’s deflected strike past Antonin Kinsky was enough for Sunderland, who were coming off an impressive derby win over Newcastle United, a couple of weeks ago. The win also meant that Sunderland ended a dreadful run stretching from April 2010.
Sunderland win a Premier League game against Tottenham for the first time in 16 years
Sunderland have now won a Premier League game against Tottenham for the first time in 16 years. Their last win came way back in April 2010, and this ended a 15-game winless run, which had 10 defeats and 5 draws.
Tottenham also were on the receiving end of their own wretched run. This is the first time since 1934/35 that they have gone 14 games without a win, and the last time they did so (16 games), they got relegated.

De Zerbi and Tottenham take on the Italian’s former PL employers, Brighton, next.
