Roberto De Zerbi’s beginning of Tottenham tenure did not go as planned as Spurs lost by a narrow margin against Sunderland. A deflected Nordi Mukiele shot in the 61st minute was enough as the Black Cats won at the Stadium of Light, 1-0.
That loss left Tottenham reeling in the relegation zone, at 18th place. They had already fallen into the drop zone after West Ham had battered Wolves in an early kickoff a couple of days ago. Now, Spurs are 2 points off of safety, even as relegation fears grip Hotspur Way.
This loss means that Tottenham are winless in their last 14 games in the Premier League, having lost 9 of those and drawn 5. An alarming stat has cropped up in the wake of this.

The alarming Tottenham stat has highlighted that this winless streak is their second-worst ever. The only time Spurs had it even worse was way back in 1934/35, almost a century ago.
It is worth noting that Tottenham were relegated that season, finishing 22nd (last) in the table, and this would definitely ring alarm bells for the Spurs faithful.
De Zerbi will look to turn things around when his side takes on Brighton next, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as it would also be against the Italian manager’s former team.
