Roberto De Zerbi has just six games in hand to decide the fate of Tottenham.

It was yet another underwhelming outing for Tottenham Hotspur in their clash against Sunderland in the Premier League. Roberto De Zerbi’s men fell to a 1-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light, a loss that saw Spurs end the gameweek in the bottom three of the Premier League table for the first time this season.

While the threat of relegation has been looming for the past couple of months now for Tottenham, following Sunday’s result, the Lilywhites now look genuinely on course for the Championship. All the optimism and fresh energy following De Zerbi’s appointment has been sucked away by the Sunderland defeat.

Ex-West Ham goalkeeper Rob Green delivered a worrying verdict on Spurs after Sunday’s game. De Zerbi apologised to the fans for the narrow defeat in Wearside, but the Italian and his team have no time to dwell on yet another defeat, with a clash against Brighton and Hove Albion next on the agenda. It is going to be a crucial fixture in the relegation battle, and our gaffer will expect a rousing response from his boys.

Jamie Carragher claims Tottenham have “no chance” of beating Wolves

After Brighton, Spurs will have five fixtures left to keep themselves up in the top flight. De Zerbi’s men will travel to Molineux to face rock-bottom Wolves next weekend.

Wolves’ fate has long been sealed, and even if they win their last six games, it is highly unlikely that they will play in the Premier League next season. However, Rob Edwards’ team have been a thorn for big teams at home of late. They held league leaders Arsenal to a 2-2 draw on February 19, before beating arch-rivals Aston Villa 2-0 a week later. At the start of March, the Wanderers then shocked Arne Slot’s Liverpool 2-1 at Molineux.

As a result, perhaps, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher feels Tottenham will have “no chance” of beating Wolves away next weekend.

“I can’t believe it. Tottenham look like they’re going to go down. The other [relegation-threatened] teams have something going for them,” Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports Premier League.

“You look at fixtures, you think that’s a good game (Wolves away) for Tottenham. But they’re awful. Tottenham’s a good game for them. Wolves are bottom of the league. Do you think Tottenham will go there and win? No chance.”

All focus on Brighton!

Before the trip to Wolves, De Zerbi faces a reunion job with Brighton on Saturday. Brighton have picked up form of late, winning four of their last five games. Fabian Hurzeler’s side are ninth in the table and firmly in the race to qualify for Europe.

Tottenham are in for a massive challenge against a well-oiled Seagulls, and De Zerbi must address the lacunas he encountered in his first game in charge. It will be the Italian’s first game at home, a genuine opportunity to help the Lilywhites claim their first league win of 2026 and shift the momentum decisively.

A sincere, disciplined and collective effort could make Brighton sweat.
