Tottenham are eyeing a summer move for one of Championship football’s gems.
Tottenham Hotspur have adopted a transfer policy where they strive to bring in prodigious talents from across the globe to N17. This was a strategy highly backed by Daniel Levy in the last few years before he decided to step down from his executive chairman post.
However, the policy has continued at White Hart Lane. Spurs decided to invest in teenage left-back Souza from Santos in the winter transfer window. This was done to bring in cover and competition for Destiny Udogie, who has endured another injury-hit campaign. We could see the North Londoners enhance their pool of young talent by investing in the summer transfer window.
We have seen the Lilywhites tracking emerging talents from the Championship, as evidenced by their interest in Blackburn Rovers defender Tom Atcheson. And now Tottenham are showing an interest in another prodigious talent from the Championship.
Tottenham eye move for Leicester City wonderkid Jeremy Monga
According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are among several Premier League clubs to have registered an interest in Leicester City wonderkid Jeremy Monga.
Jeremy Monga has quickly emerged as one of England’s most exciting young talents. The winger made headlines when he featured for Leicester City at just 15 years and 271 days, becoming one of the youngest players to appear in the Premier League. Despite the Foxes battling relegation, the teenage prodigy has continued his development this season, making over 20 appearances and emerging as one of the brightest spots.
The growing interest in Monga comes at a time when Leicester City face uncertainty over their future. As he cannot sign a professional contract until he turns 17 in July, it has prompted several clubs to make approaches. Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal are all primed to make formal approaches for the 16-year-old, the report adds.
Tottenham face intense competition for Monga’s signing
Spurs’ interest in Monga isn’t surprising. The Lilywhites are increasingly positioning themselves as a developmental club, signing young players and nurturing them with the view to helping them become first-team players. There are some highly regarded academy talents waiting to break into the first team.
Monga is a supremely talented player destined for big things in the future. However, signing the Leicester wonderkid would not be easy, as there are several of our rivals vying to pounce on him in the summer. So for any deal to happen for Spurs, it would not only require them to stay in the Premier League but also devise a long-term plan for his progress.
