Guglielmo Vicario is heading for Tottenham exit this summer amid concrete Inter Milan interest.
Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for Guglielmo Vicario’s exit this summer, as head coach Roberto De Zerbi eyes a new No.1.
Guglielmo Vicario is keen to end his three-year stay in North London. The 29-year-old’s performances and decision-making have been concerning, with the shot-stopper guilty of making many errors this season. The Italian international has cost his team several points, and there is a belief that this is his final year in English football.
Inter Milan have emerged as favourites to bring Vicario back to Italy. The Nerazzurri have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with the Tottenham goalkeeper ahead of a possible summer swoop. The club officials feel they can lure the Italy shot-stopper away from N17 for a paltry €18m this summer.
If Tottenham are relegated, then Vicario will only be one of several players who will be destined to leave, but either way, the writing is on the wall for his journey at White Hart Lane. In the wake of his possible exit, the N17 chiefs have started planning behind the scenes to sign a new goalkeeper.
Roberto De Zerbi eyeing move for Juventus goalkeeper
According to a report from Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi is keen to add Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio to his squad.
If De Zerbi‘s side stave off relegation to the Championship, Tottenham would do well to try and pursue the Juventus custodian. Michele Di Gregorio has endured a tough season with Juventus, making some high-profile errors. This has seen coach Luciano Spalletti give chances to Mattia Perin sometimes ahead of him, although Di Gregorio is firmly the No.1 at the Old Lady.
De Zerbi wants a ball-playing, composed goalkeeper to execute his system and wants Di Gregorio to be a part of his Tottenham side next season. The former Italy Under-17 international is decent in that aspect, but the Lilywhites could do well by investing in a goalkeeper with some Premier League experience.
Manchester City’s James Trafford, in that regard, would be an ideal option. Trafford returned to Man City to become their No.1 last summer, but as the Sky Blues made a late swoop for Gianluigi Donnarumma, he became second choice. Donnarumma, a multiple title winner with PSG, is unlikely to be usurped from his No.1 spot any time soon, which is why Trafford may be heading for an Etihad departure for the second time in his burgeoning career.
Composed in possession, solid distributor and a commanding presence in the box, Trafford would be a better option than Di Gregorio for De Zerbi’s Spurs. Also, it is worth noting that Di Gregorio currently wants to stay at Juventus and fight for his spot, so the Lilywhites are unlikely to stand much chance of convincing the 28-year-old to join their forces.
