Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski has been out of action since suffering a knee injury in May 2025.

Tottenham Hotspur are already facing the prospect of losing several key players ahead of the summer.

The threat of relegation isn’t going anywhere for the Lilywhites after falling to a 1-0 defeat away to Sunderland in Roberto De Zerbi’s first game in charge. With West Ham and Leeds United both winning their respective games, Spurs have now become a part of the bottom three. That has unsurprisingly led to speculation surrounding the futures of a host of players who are unwilling to play in the Championship if the club suffers the ultimate embarrassment.

A mass exodus is on the cards, with the likes of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario among players expected to leave. However, one player is willing to help Tottenham secure an immediate return to the top flight should we go down.

Gianluca Di Marzio drops a big update on Tottenham star’s future amid relegation chaos

According to Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Dejan Kulusevski could end up staying at Tottenham next season even if the unthinkable happens and they are relegated to the Championship. While a mass exodus of players is expected, the Italian journalist believes the creative midfielder is committed to the project, and Roberto De Zerbi will do his best to keep him.

“I definitely think Kulusevski will stay at Tottenham, even if they get relegated,” Gianluca Di Marzio was quoted by Football London.

“He is a good example for other players, and Roberto De Zerbi likes him. He has the right mentality, so I think Kulusevski can be one of the most important players for their project, regardless if they are in the Premier League or the Championship.

“De Zerbi will really try to keep him. He loves players like him who have a strong identity and personality. He will definitely try to keep him.”

Dejan Kulusevski willing to stay at Tottenham even if the unthinkable happens

Since arriving at Tottenham from Juventus back in January 2022, Kulusevski has been one of the club’s consistent performers. Only words could tell how he has been sorely missed during Tottenham’s worrying slide into the Premier League relegation zone this campaign.

The Swedish international has not played a single minute this season due to a serious knee injury suffered in May 2025. That also kept the 25-year-old out of the Europa League final against Manchester United in Bilbao. What followed after the injury was a major patella cartilage surgery, a gruelling rehab and multiple setbacks, leaving us with no return timescale.

Sweden boss Graham Potter claimed in March that Kulusevski is progressing well, but there is every chance he will not feature again this season. The creative midfielder recently gave an update on his knee, and it wasn’t great news. He clearly appears in a race against time to play for the North Londoners at all this term.

Tottenham will be extremely hesitant to push Kulusevski to help them preserve their Premier League status, given the severity and complexity of the knee injury. The Swede’s knee injury and lack of fitness would certainly make him too big a gamble for clubs this summer, but Di Marzio’s revelation would have increased fans’ respect for Kulusevski.
