Tottenham learn valuation of a defender currently impressing in Serie A.
Over the past few weeks, Tottenham Hotspur have been trying to get ahead of the competition for Marcos Senesi’s signature, with the Bournemouth defender’s potential free agency status in the summer making him an attractive target for several Premier League clubs. It appears that they have succeeded in the first part of their objective, as the Lilywhites are now in advanced talks with Senesi’s representatives over a summer move.
In addition to Senesi, Spurs have a verbal agreement in place with Andy Robertson, who is set to leave Liverpool on a free transfer at the end of the season. Interest in both Senesi and Robertson clearly demonstrates Tottenham’s keenness to bolster their defensive unit after a disastrous campaign.
Now, the N17 bosses have also received an update on another defensive target.
Sassuolo set a valuation on their star defender
Recent reports have linked Tottenham with Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic. The 23-year-old has been a reliable presence at the heart of Sassuolo’s defence this season, registering four-goal contributions in 28 Serie A outings. He also played a crucial role in Bosnia and Herzegovina beating Italy in the play-off finals on penalty shootout in March, qualifying to the World Cup in North America in the process.
Tottenham aren’t the club to have shown an interest in Tarik Muharemovic. Inter Milan recently made contact with the left centre-back’s representatives over a possible summer move. Aston Villa are also keen on the Sassuolo star. Now, it has been revealed that the clubs could get a discount for the player.
According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Sassuolo would want a ‘base figure’ of €25m for Muharemovic. Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta is now trying to close the deal as quickly as possible, but there is persistent threat from Juventus, who also hold a sell-on clause in the Bosnian’s current deal.
No chance for Tottenham?
Tottenham could lose both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven in one transfer window. Romero, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season, has lately emerged as a target for Newcastle United. Van de Ven, on the other hand, continues to draw attention from several clubs.
Spurs’ primary centre-back target is Senesi. Muharemovic, a left-footed centre-back, is perhaps an alternative target to Senesi, in case the North Londoners fail to land the Bournemouth man. As far as Muharemovic’s situation is concerned, it looks like Sassuolo have accepted that this will be his last season at Mapei Stadium. Several clubs are positioning themselves to sign the Bosnian star, who was excellent against Italy in the World Cup play-off finals last month.
However, that works against Tottenham. Given the likes of Inter, Juventus and Villa are all vying for his signature, the Hotspur Way chiefs are set to find it difficult to convince Muharemovic of choosing our project. Plus, any move for the 23-year-old would be contingent on Tottenham staying in the top flight.
