Tottenham face Arsenal threat to sign 16yo with 25 Championship appearances

The player in question has been linked with Tottenham occasionally.

In the final years of Daniel Levy at the helm at Hotspur Way, he went on to implement this sign-em-young transfer policy where Tottenham signs high-potential young players and develops them into their potential through the ranks at N17.

And that strategy is something that the duo of Vinai and Johan Lange have followed despite Levy leaving his position at the start of the season.

The Lilywhites are about to continue the same in the upcoming summer transfer window as well as look at possibilities of bringing a highly rated 16-year-old to N17.

Arsenal enter race to sign Tottenham target Jeremy Monga

The name Jeremy Monga has been mentioned quite a few times when talking around Tottenham. But like what has happened with many Tottenham targets of late, Arsenal have reportedly arrived in the race for his signature (h/t Telegraph).

Now he is not your regular sixteen-year-old (16) given that he has already accumulated 25 appearances in the Championship at that age. He has shown traits of being fearless with the ball and quite direct and comfortable to take on defenders, something that quite fits the tone of what Lilywhites fans expect from their wingers.

The fact that there are multiple clubs from Europe and England circling for his signing just shows how everyone is convinced about his ceiling.

But having the Gunners pushing for his signing complicates things at Tottenham, like it did for multiple transfers last summer as well. And the aforementioned report goes on to mention the Gunners’ interest as strong, indicating that Mikel Arteta & Co. have done their groundwork and are now ready to act.

Leicester City will want to keep him at King Power

But while Tottenham and Arsenal express interest in landing his signature, Leicester City are not willing to let go of him. They are said to be looking at Monga as someone who they can build their future around rather than cash in on his signing.

But if the instability at King Power continues to grow with what looks like an already rising interest from the Premier League, then the Foxes might be forced into a sale.

In the recent seasons, Tottenham have shown the willingness to trust young players and give them a run in the Premier League, and that has seen the emergence of some high-profile talents like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall. And this in itself gives Tottenham a ceding to land him. But then that pathway under De Zerbi could become more defined than it was for the likes of Gray and Bergvall (both of whom succeeded in chaos).
