The star has been ruled out for the season.
Tottenham saw another injury scrape last weekend, which will see Xavi Simons serve time on the sidelines for the rest of the season and beyond. His injury has been a major talking point in the past days given that his now confirmed ACL will force him to miss the upcoming World Cup in the United States.
Injury to Simons rules him out for the season
The former RB Leipzig wide forward hit the ground in the Lilywhites’ 1-0 win against Wolves on Saturday. While the Tottenham medical team initially asked him to run it off, it surely looked like he was in a lot of pain and he wouldn’t be able to take further part in the game.
Simon left the Molineux pitch on a stretcher which was never going to be a good sign for Tottenham. And it didn’t take long for the player as well as the club to formally reveal his ACL injury and the fact that he is set to miss the 2026 World Cup.
But missing out on the World Cup is not the only complication that Xavi Simons faced because of the injury. He was also in talks with one of Tottenham’s Premier League rivals for a possible move when the summer transfer window comes around.
Premier League heavyweights were looking to move for Xavi Simons
According to a recent report by CaughtOffside, Manchester United were exploring opportunities to bring Xavi Simons to Old Trafford in the summer.
The Manchester Reds are in a good position in the Premier League table going into the final weeks of the current season. Their progress under Michael Carrick means that they are in a good place to attract some of the best players in the world at M16.
At the same time, Tottenham are struggling to save themselves from the drop into the championship, and this means that the Lilywhites are likely to lose some of the most important players (especially if they don’t find a way to survive in the English top tier).
With Simons playing some impressive football of late since Roberto De Zerbi took charge of the proceedings at Hotspur Way, United wanted to take advantage of that market situation and pry him away from Tottenham.
The affirmation report also claims that in case of a possible relegation at N17, Tottenham would be forced to sell Simons for a fee around £26m (which is about half of what they paid to sign him from RB Leipzig).
Galatasaray and Barcelona also established links with a move for the 23-year-old, but they will now be forced to look elsewhere because of this injury.
Do you think Simons would have left Tottenham for Man United in the summer if he had not suffered this injury? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
