The Tottenham defender has missed the last three games for SV Hamburger with a knee problem.

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Luka Vuskovic has been missing for the past three weeks in an SV Hamburger shirt with a knee injury.

Luka Vuskovic has made 27 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit since joining on a season-long loan from Tottenham, contributing six goal involvements. Unfortunately, the teenager has been unavailable for the last three games for SV Hamburger with a knee issue that required tests, intensive treatment and a period of rest. Reports suggested that the centre-back’s injury was more serious than first presumed.

SV Hamburger have lost all three games that Luka Vuskovic has not been a part of, which stresses just how important the 19-year-old is to their backline. Three consecutive losses have seen Merlin Polzin’s side drop to 15th in the Bundesliga table, thereby getting embroiled in a relegation battle. However, the Hamburg boss has now provided a positive update on Vuskovic’s injury.

Hamburg boss gives latest injury update on Luka Vuskovic

There is now a sense of positivity within the Bundesliga club, as Vuskovic (Tottenham’s second-most valuable player) completed a light recovery session with rehabilitation coach Sebastian Capel on Tuesday. This shows the Croatian international has seen some progress in his return, as the defender was able to train on Tuesday individually.

Furthermore, Hamburg boss Merlin Polzin offered an update on Vuskovic’s recovery, acknowledging that the Spurs loanee will continue his recovery work alongside Capel. He added that the pain in the defender’s knee has eased, and his hunger to return to action remains strong.

“The hope is there that we can gradually increase that,” Polzin told the local press (h/t Sport Bild).

“We want to build it up sensibly. He will also work with rehab trainer Sebastian Capel tomorrow, and then we’ll see how it develops.

“It gives me confidence and a good feeling that I know that the pain has subsided and that he really wants to be on the pitch and has been able to take the next steps.

“I don’t know yet what that means for Saturday.”

Luka Vuskovic is raring to return to full fitness

Polzin’s words offers a timely boost for HSV, who have hit a lean patch of late. They have struggled defensively in the absence of Vuskovic, conceding nine goals in the last three games.

HSV fans will want to see the uber-talented Vuskovic return to action as quickly as possible and hold the fort at the back. However, despite clear progress in his rehab, it remains to be seen whether the lanky Croat is passed fit to feature against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

From Tottenham’s perspective, they have been keeping a close watch on Vuskovic’s injury condition and recovery. The Spurs bosses would have been relieved to know that the young central defender has returned to individual training, dispelling fears over a long-term knee injury. Hopefully, he returns to action in the coming weeks and finishes the season strongly with HSV.
