Tottenham could see two injured stars return to the squad vs. Aston Villa.
Tottenham Hotspur’s game against Aston Villa on Sunday is viewed as a must-win game by the fans.
Spurs remain two points adrift of safety with four games to go, despite their win over Wolves last week. This is because West Ham beat Everton in stoppage time on the same day and stayed in 17th position. So, if the Lilywhites intend to topple West Ham or at least maintain the two-point gap, they must bag three points at Villa Park.
Roberto De Zerbi suffered double blows after Tottenham’s win over Wolves. Both Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke were forced off with injuries at Molineux. Simons confirmed at the start of the week that he has sustained a heartbreaking ACL injury, while several reports suggest that Solanke has suffered a grade-2 hamstring injury.
Amid two injury blows, it looks like De Zerbi could receive some positive news on the injury front ahead of Spurs’ trip to Aston Villa.
Two Tottenham stars expected to return vs. Aston Villa
Destiny Udogie missed the Wolves trip with a minor knock, but De Zerbi remained hopeful that the left-back would be back for the next game. The Spurs boss had also revealed before the Wolves game that Guglielmo Vicario is expected to return to training this week.
Now, according to a report from The Standard, Guglielmo Vicario could be in line to return against Aston Villa. Destiny Udogie may also make his return on Sunday.
Vicario underwent hernia surgery during the March international break. This subsequently has seen the Italian international miss Tottenham’s last three games. Interestingly, the 29-year-old’s absence hasn’t been felt, with Antonin Kinsky deputising very well. Kinsky has looked far more composed and reliable than Vicario in goal across three games, putting behind his Champions League debut nightmare against Atletico Madrid in the process.
As far as Udogie is concerned, he seemed to nail down the left-back spot in the first two games under De Zerbi. However, his frustrating campaign with injuries continued, with the 23-year-old missing the Wolves fixture with an unspecified knock. The positive news is that the injury is not serious, and there are chances of the Italian defender returning against Unai Emery’s side.
If Udogie shakes off a knock, he might walk straight back into the starting XI, unlike Vicario, who could now play second-fiddle to the in-form Kinsky for the rest of the campaign.
