Roberto De Zerbi bagged his first win as Tottenham boss by beating Wolves at Molineux.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Roberto De Zerbi has instilled enough fight and resilience into the players, as witnessed across three games in charge.
Roberto De Zerbi has managed to pick up four points from a possible nine since becoming Tottenham’s head coach during the March international break. His side were denied three points against Brighton and Hove Albion in a frustrating fashion at home, but they bounced back with a 1-0 win over the already relegated Wolves side at Molineux last weekend. The Italian picked up his first win in charge of Spurs last time out, although it wasn’t enough to lift the club out of the relegation zone.
Tottenham will head to Aston Villa on Sunday in desperate need of three points in the Premier League. With relegation rivals West Ham losing to Brentford on Saturday, it is a great opportunity for the Lilywhites to beat Aston Villa and jump out of the dreaded drop zone.
Antonin Kinsky makes revelation on Roberto De Zerbi
Antonin Kinsky has started the last three Tottenham games, deputising well in goal in the absence of Guglielmo Vicario, who is still recovering from hernia surgery. The 23-year-old heroically denied Wolves star Joao Gomes’ free-kick in stoppage time to seal all three points for his side this past weekend.
After revealing how the Atletico Madrid nightmare in Spain made him mentally stronger, Kinsky has now opened up on De Zerbi. The young glovesman says that the 46-year-old has instilled a positive mindset in the group since replacing Igor Tudor at the helm.
“By the way he speaks, what you read and what you hear from him is that he believes in us and that is a big message that he gives us overall: that the quality is there in the squad,” Kinsky said in an interview to Sky Sports.
“It’s just not to speak about it but to show it. With the combination, with the style that he wants to play, I think our squad fits to that so I believe this is going to work.
“Now we have four points from three games, there are four left, and I hope, and I believe that this is the right way.”
De Zerbi believes in his players
De Zerbi has encountered several setbacks in recent weeks. He has lost key players such as Cristian Romero, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke to season-ending injuries. Yet, the Italian hasn’t complained one bit about the lack of quality and depth in his squad.
Instead, the 46-year-old feels “losers cry”, encouraging his players to put their everything on the line to save the club from relegation. De Zerbi remains adamant that Tottenham have “qualities” to win the remaining four games and beat the drop.
For a manager who has often been criticised by the media and pundits for his combustible behaviour, De Zerbi’s approach to every game has been a refreshing watch for fans. Such positivity and will to fight until the end have rubbed off on the players, leading to markedly improved displays.
