The most pressing concern within the squad remains the lack of a creative midfielder. De Zerbi’s spell in charge of Spurs so far has been positive. In four matches, he’s picked up two wins and a draw, helping the Lilywhites jump out of the relegation zone temporarily. The five-year contract given to him by Tottenham shows their desire to support the Italian tactician for the long run, and he’s planning to shape his squad for next season.
According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, De Zerbi ‘will do everything’ to land AS Roma pair Lorenzo Pellegrini and Mile Svilar if he manages to keep Tottenham up in the top flight.
Spurs have been closely monitoring the situation of Lorenzo Pellegrini for the last few months. The Italian international has been a great servant for AS Roma. An academy graduate, having joined the club back in 2007, he has made close to 350 appearances for I Giallorossi, notching up 62 goals and 63 assists.
The 29-year-old has missed the last few games with a hamstring injury. Pellegrini’s current deal runs out at the end of the campaign. For months, there had been no signs of him signing another contract, with other clubs already circling him. The report adds that the Roma playmaker must take a hefty wage cut to continue his career in Rome.
The heartbeat of Roma, Pellegrini’s long-term association with the club is close to coming to an end. He is set to become a free agent in the summer, and the North Londoners must try their best to bring him in. Spurs are not only lacking creativity, but also leadership and top-level experience in their engine room. Simons is unlikely to return in 2026, while Dejan Kulusevski’s knee injury looks very complicated, as he has not featured for the club for almost a year now.
Keeping that in mind, the Lilywhites must try signing the clever and hugely experienced Pellegrini to address their problems in the final third.
