Tottenham will require an adequate replacement for Cristian Romero if he departs in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to bolster their squad in the upcoming transfer window. It is essential that the North London club recruit players capable of making an immediate impact and helping Roberto de Zerbi’s side compete at the upper end of the Premier League table.

The immediate priority for Spurs remains securing their top-flight status in the coming weeks as they continue their relegation battle with West Ham United, who stayed 18th in the table after being narrowly beaten by Arsenal on Sunday. Once survival is confirmed, the Hotspur Way chiefs can totally shift their attention toward signing players who can seamlessly slot into the first XI at N17.

Several pressing issues within the squad must be addressed this summer, chief among them is the addition of a quality central defender. With Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven heavily linked with an exit ahead of the summer transfer window, the Lilywhites would need quality replacements if the duo are sold.

Juventus’ valuation of key defender emerges amid Tottenham interest

Tottenham were exploring the possibility of signing Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu in January. But a move did not happen as Juventus had no intention whatsoever to part ways with one of their key players midway through the campaign.

Pierre Kalulu joined Juventus on loan from AC Milan last season, before the Turin-based outfit took up the option to make the deal permanent during the 2025 summer transfer window. The 25-year-old has become a mainstay on the side this season, operating as a right-back, a right-wing-back and as a central defender. He has supplied two goals and seven assists in 47 appearances thus far this season.

However, the three-cap France international’s future at Allianz Arena has come into question. It looks like he may indeed be bound for the Premier League this summer. According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Juventus are open to listening to offers for around €40m if Kalulu does not pen fresh terms.

The Bianconeri view the versatile defender as central to their long-term plans and want to hand him a new contract, despite Kalulu having four more years to run on his current deal. This is planned with the idea to secure the Frenchman’s future and protect his value amid rising interest from the Premier League.

The report adds Liverpool have been scouting the 25-year-old this season, while Manchester United and Aston Villa are also in the race to land the central defender. There are no clear frontrunners for Kalulu’s signature so far. Yet Juventus’ determination to keep hold of him makes negotiations difficult.

Kalulu would represent a shrewd signing for Tottenham

As for Tottenham, Kalulu would be a fantastic fit. He has proven himself at a high level and would represent a smart potential long-term replacement for Romero. The Frenchman is quick, agile, physical, aerially strong and a good reader of the game. Plus, the ex-Lyon man’s versatility would be admired by De Zerbi in N17.

Should the North Londoners get out of jail and stay in the Premier League, they must look to compete with their rivals for the Juventus star’s signing. And if the North Londoners manage to bag his signature for €40m, it would be daylight robbery.
