Tottenham are in a critical phase in the PL right now.
Tottenham Hotspur have been vying for a move to bring in a new midfielder at Hotspur Way in the upcoming summer transfer window. And this search for a new face in the middle phase has led the Lilywhites to Nicolò Fagioli, who has been plying his trade with Fiorentina in Serie A.
According to the latest from Corriere dello Sport (via. Sport Witness), Spurs are said to have identified the 25-year-old as a key target for the off-season as Roberto De Zerbi looks to add technical ability in his midfield.
Tottenham are reportedly considering a formal approach to try and convince the 25-year-old and his current employers for a possible transfer.
Paratici could have a big role to play in Fagioli transfer
Fagioli started the campaign on the slow side of things, but his influence from that second phase steadily grew with the campaign, and now the 5 G/A man is one of the more important players on La Viola’s roster.
Tottenham are not alone in the race to his signing, though, with Premier League rivals Newcastle United also interested in pouncing on his services.
Fiorentina do hold Fagioli central to the current project that they have undertaken and are not really looking to sell him. But the aforementioned report states that their stand could change if a significant offer were to arrive in the summer. And with a club of Tottenham statues, they surely have the financial flex to go and convince his current employers into a possible sale.
Fabio Paratici will also be a massive factor if this transfer were to come through given his already established connection with the Lilywhites.
Fagioli has just a €1.8m per season contract, which is one of the lower salaries for a player of his capabilities in European football, and this is where any contract with Tottenham (or any Premier League club for that matter) will be something he would welcome.
De Zerbi would welcome his technical abilities at N17
He was called up for the Euro 2024 based on his ability to receive the ball under pressure and move it intelligently. And then he also has this capacity to play in multiple positions in the middle of the park, which will give De Zerbi tactical options that he has not had this season.
And then we have also seen him grow as a leader at Fiorentina, which would surely be something that RDZ would also look at when sanctioning this transfer.
