Antonin Kinsky has been in strong form for Tottenham in recent weeks.
Whatever division Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in next season, it’s fair to assume that their squad will look rather different.
Some players could leave whether Spurs want them to or not, such as the first-choice centre-back pairing of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. Romero and Van de Ven have become top targets for European bigwigs, while goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan for several months.
Roberto De Zerbi has publicly backed Vicario recently and insisted that the Italian international is his No.1, even though Antonin Kinsky has done extremely well in the 29-year-old’s injury absence. Since Vicario underwent groin surgery in mid-March, Antonin Kinsky has started all Tottenham games. The 23-year-old has enjoyed a new lease of life under Roberto De Zerbi, overcoming his Champions League debut demons against Atletico Madrid (where he got a 1/10 rating).
Tottenham tipped to hand Antonin Kinsky the No.1 spot
Kinsky has made some terrific saves in recent weeks and won Tottenham crucial points. The Czech Republic shot-stopper’s point-blank save to tip Sean Longstaff’s shot onto the bar deep into stoppage time helped Spurs draw 1-1 with Leeds United earlier this week. He also made a last-gasp save to deny Joao Gomes’ free-kick to inspire his team to their first league win of 2026 at Wolves last month.
With Vicario heading towards the exit door, reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham has tipped the North Londoners to not spend millions on a new goalkeeper and hand Kinsky the No.1 spot next season.
“On Kinsky, he has done very well since coming into the side, if you think, it was only two months ago when he had that disastrous night in Madrid that had people effectively saying he had no future at the club,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“The fightback from him deserves a huge amount of credit, especially in the state we are in right now, deputising so well for Vicario.
“The talk now after his performances against Wolves, with that last-minute free-kick save, at Villa Park, and he then had a huge impact against Leeds, which may even win Save of the Season, when he tipped Sean Longstaff’s effort onto the bar.
“There is still talk that Tottenham will pursue James Trafford in the summer, I would personally like him to be, as long as he carries on his form against Chelsea and Everton, given the opportunity to be Tottenham’s number one next season.
“We have other areas of the squad that need strengthening, rather than a big money goalkeeper, who will cost between £30-40million.”
Kinsky deserves a shot as Tottenham’s No.1
When Spurs signed Kinsky from Slavia Praha in January 2025, they invested in his growing reputation and potential. The youngster has faced a lot of ups and downs in his short N17 career, but he has remained strong. His hard work, personality and determination has been paying off in recent weeks, helping the 23-year-old rebuild his Tottenham career.
As the Lilywhites will have several areas to reinforce in the summer after a disastrous campaign, De Zerbi can save millions by not spending on a new goalkeeper and trusting Kinsky as his No.1 next term. That money could come in handy to strengthen the other key departments of the pitch.
All in all, Kinsky has proven himself to be a reliable presence between the sticks in Vicario’s absence, and it would not be the end of the world if De Zerbi decides to stick with him as the first-choice shot-stopper in the 2026/27 season.
