Bournemouth confirm Tottenham target will depart on a free transfer this summer.

UCL-spot-chasing Bournemouth have officially confirmed that Marcos Senesi will leave the club on a free transfer this summer, handing Tottenham Hotspur a significant boost in their pursuit of the Argentine international as Roberto De Zerbi plans his defensive rebuild.

According to Football London, the 27-year-old has publicly confirmed he will not be extending his stay at the Vitality Stadium, bringing to an end a four-year association with the south coast club that began when he joined from Feyenoord in August 2022. Senesi was a consistent and important figure for Bournemouth during much of his time there. However, he lost his starting position last season when Dean Huijsen and Illia Zabarnyi were brought in. Both have since moved to Real Madrid and PSG respectively, allowing Senesi to reclaim his prominence and demonstrate his value once more.

In a heartfelt farewell message on the club’s official website, Senesi said he felt at home from his first day at the club and expressed pride in everything achieved over four years, adding that Bournemouth would always hold a special place for him. The warmth of his departure reflects a player who gave everything during his time on the south coast, and his availability on a free transfer this summer makes him one of the more attractive defensive options in the market.

Tottenham are in pole position to sign Senesi

Tottenham are leading the race for his signature, though the deal is entirely contingent on the club securing Premier League survival. Senesi is explicitly described as not a viable target if Spurs are relegated, which adds yet another dimension to the significance of the final two fixtures against Chelsea and Everton. Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea have shown varying degrees of interest, while clubs from Serie A have also registered their admiration, meaning Tottenham cannot afford to dither if survival is confirmed.

Spurs are also understood to be keen on Andy Robertson on a free transfer, with the former Liverpool left back another target that depends on Premier League status being maintained. Robertson came close to joining in January but Liverpool were reluctant to weaken their squad at the time, with Kostas Tsimikas unavailable to return from his loan at AS Roma.

The summer rebuild De Zerbi has in mind is taking shape in the background, with Senesi’s free transfer availability representing exactly the kind of financially astute recruitment the Lewis family have been pushing toward. Whether it can be acted upon depends entirely on what happens at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening.
