Tottenham will be 3 points ahead should the draw against Chelsea, and since they have a largely superior goal-difference, it should guarantee safety.

Chelsea are set to host Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge this Tuesday night as we go into the penultimate match of what has been a difficult season at Hotspur Way. This is a game where Tottenham have a chance to confirm their top-flight status given that West Ham have succumbed to a defeat against Newcastle United today.

Spurs have, anyway, seen a big upside of form since Roberto De Zerbi took charge of proceedings at N17, and now that the squad knows that they need just a win to send the Hammers down and secure their Premier League status with a game to spare, Tottenham would surely come fired up for this one.

The Blues have been struggling themselves of late, and that 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City, in which Antoine Semenyo’s audacious backheel was the final hammer that Boehly & Co required before they turned to former Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso, who joins the Blues on a four-year contract.

While he will not be on the sidelines of this one and will only take charge in the off-season, the Liverpool icon is expected to be in attendance at Stamford Bridge.

This midweek is also the last home game of the season of the English top tier for the West Londoners, and they have not ended up on the losing side in their last home game of a season since 2001-02. But that being said, if Tottenham do manage to churn out three points, then it will be their fifth consecutive defeat at the Bridge, a number they will reach for the first time in their history.

Team News

Chelsea

Blues striker Joao Pedro is a big doubt going into this game after the Brazilian ended up hurting his leg in the FA Cup final. He was playing through the pain for a while, but he was soon subbed off in the 86th minute.

Another Brazilian, Estevao Willian, alongside Jamie Gittens, is a sure absentee for the game.

But that being said, Chelsea did welcome back Pedro Neto, Alejandro Garnacho and Robert Sánchez from their respective injuries at Wembley this weekend.

Tottenham

For Tottenham, all of Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, Dejan Kulusevski, Mohammed Kudus and Cristian Romero will continue to be on the sidelines serving their respective long-term problems.

And then there is the trio of Dominic Solanke, Ben Davies and Guglielmo Vicario, with none of them being ruled out of the game vs the Blues, but you don’t really expect any of the three to start.

Tottenham did welcome back James Maddison in their last game against Leeds, with the former Leicester City midfielder making his first appearance of the season in the 85th minute. He could again be on the show this mid-week, but we need to see if he would get a start given that he is returning from a long-term ACL injury.

Predicted Lineup

Chelsea: Sanchez; Fofana, Colwill, Hato; Gusto, Caicedo, Fernandez, Cucurella; Palmer, Neto; Delap.

Tottenham: Kinsky; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bentancur, Palhinha; Kolo Muani, Gallagher, Tel; Richarlison

Chelsea vs Tottenham Prediction

Tottenham have won seven Premier League games on the road this season, having only been bettered by Arsenal and Manchester City in terms of away wins. The recent back-to-back wins at Wolves and Aston Villa show how this side does have that capacity to go on tough grounds and come out with wins.

But that being said, Tottenham have not won at Stamford Bridge since 2018, and Chelsea have won each of the past five meetings in the top flight.

Chelsea have run dry in terms of goals, with only three goals in the last seven games, and without Joao Pedro, they will lack that menace of a weapon up front.

This game looks more and more like a draw. Prediction: Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham
