Tottenham have been actively following the developments of a highly-rated Premier League defender.
Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a significant boost in their pursuit of Marcos Senesi after Bournemouth officially confirmed it last week that the defender will leave the club on a free transfer this summer.
Senesi has had a strong few years at Bournemouth, developing into a reliable centre-half in the Premier League. No wonder several clubs from the Premier League and Europe are vying for his services. Tottenham are leading the race for the Argentina international’s signature, though the deal is entirely contingent on the club securing Premier League survival.
Apart from Senesi, Spurs want to add more to their defensive ranks. The uncertainty surrounding the futures of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have led to them keeping tabs on several other central defensive options.
Tottenham target set to be offered new contract?
Luka Vuskovic has been making waves on loan at SV Hamburger in the Bundesliga. The Croatian international is set to return to White Hart Lane after his successful loan spell with SV Hamburger, but Tottenham want more options at the back after how their season has unravelled.
According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are one of several Premier League clubs interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix, having monitored the defender closely during the season. Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa are other Premier League clubs keen, while Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich have retained a long-standing admiration for the Frenchman.
Maxence Lacroix has firmly established himself among the Premier League’s best centre-backs in the past 12 months. The 26-year-old has been a consistent performer for Crystal Palace since arriving from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer of 2024, forming a rock-solid partnership with former skipper Marc Guehi.
Following Guehi’s departure to Manchester City during the winter transfer window, the France international has become the leader of the Eagles’ defence and helped the side secure a place in the UEFA Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano on May 27. Despite the rising interest, Palace have interest in listening to offers for their star defender.
Instead, the report adds that the Palace hierarchy are open to handing Lacroix a bumper new contract. He currently earns a package worth around £50,000 a week, but the South Londoners, keeping in mind his call-up to the France squad for the World Cup and rising status within European football, are ready to double his wages after holding talks with the defender’s camp.
Blow for Tottenham in Lacroix’s chase?
Tottenham have been following Lacroix’s progress for quite some time as they look to rebuild their defence ahead of next season. However, Palace are in no mood to sell the Frenchman and remain keen to retain their star defender in the foreseeable future. To fend off further interest in the 26-year-old international, the Eagles want to hand him an improved contract extension as they look to maintain their core group of players ahead of potential European football.
As for Spurs, it is important that they splash the cash on the right players and back De Zerbi in the transfer market. But first, the Italian tactician must retain the club’s top-flight status. Should that happen, it would give them a chance to compete for the £50m-rated Palace man’s signature.
