It has been widely reported that Tottenham Hotspur are considering midfield reinforcements in the summer. This comes in addition to Roberto De Zerbi recently admitting that he wants to keep Joao Palhinha beyond the season.
There has been uncertainty over whether Spurs would activate the option to buy Palhinha from Bayern Munich this summer. It seems the defensive midfielder has done enough to convince De Zerbi that he can become a useful player for him next campaign. Fans would expect the Italian tactician to persuade the board to sign the 30-year-old permanently from Bayern Munich, especially now that Tottenham need only a point from their remaining two games to seal top-flight safety.
In recent days, Spurs have been linked with a shock move for Real Madrid star Eduardo Camavinga. It has not been a great season for Eduardo Camavinga and Real Madrid, who are set to finish their campaign trophyless. The central midfielder has endured an underwhelming year, and it is understood that he is considering his future at Santiago Bernabeu after being left out of the France national team squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Tottenham make offer to sign Eduardo Camavinga
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham have tabled an offer in the region of €45 million to sign Camavinga from Real Madrid. It is an offer that does not end discussions with Real Madrid, although the Spanish side feels they could get an even higher price from the midfielder’s sale.
Camavinga had been viewed as a major part of France’s future after featuring prominently during the 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar, where Didier Deschamps’ men reached the final before losing to Argentina on penalties. The 23-year-old even appeared in that final, but he is now one of the most high-profile omissions from the Les Blues squad for next month’s showpiece event.
This comes in the wake of a hugely inconsistent season at Real Madrid, where the central midfielder has started only 16 of 29 La Liga games. The likes of Aurelien Tchouameni, Fede Valverde, Brahim Diaz and Arda Guler have been preferred ahead of him by interim boss Alvaro Arbeloa.
Will Camavinga agree to join Tottenham?
Camavinga ‘s future in the Spanish capital is now up in the air. With Real Madrid closing in on the appointment of Jose Mourinho as their new head coach, the Frenchman could do with a change of scenery to revive his stuttering career.
A move to Tottenham may help the 23-year-old get his career back on track and potentially get back into the France squad after the World Cup. Camavinga fits the profile of the technically gifted, tenacious and possession-oriented midfielder that De Zerbi has consistently favoured throughout his managerial career, and his top-level experience at the biggest club in world football makes him an immediately appealing proposition.
That said, however, should Madrid agree to the reported €45 million offer, will Camavinga agree to join Tottenham? The answer does not look affirmative purely for two reasons. One is Tottenham not participating in any European competition at all next season, and other clubs from across the continent can offer him that. Secondly, the player’s wages may not fit with the club’s structure.
Keeping these factors in mind, we feel Spurs will miss out on signing the Real Madrid man.
