John Wenham predicts massive shake-up in Tottenham hierarchy amid disastrous campaign.
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly expected to shake up the very top of their hierarchy this summer, with a double dismissal on the cards regardless of whether Roberto De Zerbi guides the club to Premier League safety.
Spurs currently sit 17th in the Premier League table, perilously positioned just two points above the relegation zone. With season-defining fixtures against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening and a final-day trip to Everton to follow on Sunday, the club’s top-flight status hangs entirely in the balance. While a single draw against the Blues would essentially secure safety due to goal difference, the fact that Tottenham are even in this position has left the ownership group demanding accountability.
While head coach Roberto De Zerbi has done an admirable job lifting the squad since taking the hot seat in late March, he is not the one under scrutiny. Instead, the ultimate blame for a disastrous campaign is falling on the shoulders of the administrative figures who constructed the squad and technical team.
According to club insider John Wenham, internal discussions point toward a major boardroom clearout. Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham revealed that Chief Executive Officer Vinai Venkatesham and Technical Director Johan Lange are firmly in the firing line as the ultimate “fall guys” for the club’s systemic failures. Wenham said:
“There’s no further update on that, and I don’t think we’ll get anything until the end of the season, but I get the impression that should Tottenham survive, they’ll act pretty quickly on that front, because the ownership group will need somebody to take the blame for what’s happened this season. They’re the easy targets, is the reality. That’s it, they’re the fall guys, they’ll say, look, these guys made the mistakes, they were involved in hiring Thomas Frank with Daniel Levy, who’s obviously gone, so we’re going to remove these guys and take it from there.”
Why a high-profile departure is necessary
The sense of frustration among the fan base has reached a boiling point. Venkatesham and Lange were expected to seamlessly lead the club out of the Daniel Levy era into a prosperous new chapter, yet their decision-making has left Spurs fighting for their lives.
The duo played a major part in appointing Thomas Frank last summer, an experiment that collapsed rapidly and dragged the team into the lower reaches of the table. Beyond the managerial instability, they are also deemed responsible for the wider squad recruitment issues that have completely unbalanced the team.
Dropping into the Championship would see Tottenham lose a catastrophic £245m in revenue. Even if De Zerbi averts that financial nightmare over the next 48 hours, the hierarchy understands that heads must roll to appease a furious supporter base and signal a total reset before the summer transfer window opens.
