Tottenham head to Chelsea with the hope of sealing their Premier League status.

Tottenham Hotspur can secure their top-flight status on Tuesday with a win over Chelsea following West Ham’s defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday evening.

West Ham were beaten 3-1 by Newcastle United at St James’ Park, handing Spurs a massive boost in their survival bid. They have a two-point lead over 18th-placed Hammers, who needed a win to leapfrog Spurs, but that did not happen. The Lilywhites now firmly have their fate in their own hands heading into the remaining two games of the campaign.

Tottenham head to Stamford Bridge on the back of a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Leeds United last week. Roberto De Zerbi at least managed to get James Maddison back in action when the creative midfielder made his long-awaited return from ACL injury against Leeds United and played more than 20 minutes. It was the 29-year-old’s first competitive minutes since May 2025.

De Zerbi will be hopeful of having a couple more of his injured stars back in time before the season concludes. He faces a huge selection decision ahead of his first London derby as Tottenham boss.

Tottenham GK Guglielmo Vicario back in full training

Guglielmo Vicario underwent hernia surgery in March, which has led to him missing five games. Spurs announced before the operation that it had been deliberately timed for the international break and the three-week absence of fixtures in order to “have as minimal impact as possible”. That has been far from the case, though.

The Italian goalkeeper was expected to be available for the Leeds United game, but missed out. Now, as per the pictures released by the club’s official X handle, Vicario has been spotted returning to training.

Vicario is a part of Spurs’ leadership group, and his return would thus add a lot to De Zerbi’s squad as they fight to avoid relegation. With the No.1 back in training, De Zerbi faces a big decision on whether to stick with Antonin Kinsky or bring the Italian international into the first XI. It is also worth noting that Viario is linked to an exit from the club after this season.

Recently, the Tottenham boss publicly backed Vicario and insisted that the Italian international is his No.1, even though Kinsky has deputised brilliantly in goal. The Czech Republic’s glovesman has made valuable contributions and helped his team win points. Had it not been his stoppage-time world-class save to tip Sean Longstaff’s shot onto the crossbar, Tottenham would have lost to Leeds at home.

Thus, it remains to be seen what De Zerbi does, but fans would want our gaffer to stick with the in-form Kinsky until the end of the season.
