Tottenham have received a surprise boost in their pursuit of a teenage prodigy from South America.

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to undergo massive changes to their squad, without or without relegation.

The North London club require fresh additions in several areas of the pitch, especially in the attacking department. Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert are unlikely to play again in 2026 after suffering ACL injuries, while Mathys Tel continues to blow hot and cold. Plus, Randal Kolo Muani is set to leave Tottenham and return to PSG upon the expiry of his loan contract in June.

Roberto De Zerbi must also consider James Maddison’s situation after he recently returned from an ACL injury. How he comes back next season will be interesting to watch. If Spurs are serious about rebuilding their squad under Roberto De Zerbi, they must recruit young, dynamic, creative talents with high potential who can develop under experienced players such as James Maddison, Conor Gallagher and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Tottenham receives an update in their pursuit of Real Madrid talent

Recent reports suggest that Tottenham are monitoring Real Madrid playmaker Franco Mastantuono. They are keeping a close watch on the teenager’s situation in the Spanish capital and feel he may be tempted to seek a move ahead of next season in pursuit of regular game time.

Rated as one of the most promising young talents in world football, Franco Mastantuono only joined Real Madrid from River Plate last summer. However, he has struggled to impose himself in his debut campaign in La Liga. The Argentine has shown that he is still adapting to the demands of European football.

Real Madrid beat several big clubs to sign the 18-year-old and have no intention whatsoever to sell him. Instead, according to a report from Fichajes, Los Blancos are planning to loan Mastantuono for one season, with an option to extend it for another year if the process is successful. Tottenham would be willing to accept these conditions to bring the South American into N17.

Boost for Tottenham in Franco Mastantuono’s pursuit

The one-season loan, with an option to extend it by a further 12 months, shows that the La Liga heavyweights do not want to lose control over Mastantuono. The power barons at Valdebebas believe in his high potential and want to find an environment that would allow him to develop with regular game time. Spurs have shown an interest in the Azul-born talent, and De Zerbi should love to work with him.

Mastantuono would offer a different dynamic in the final third, thanks to his technical ability, dribbling, movement and incisiveness. He is a crisp passer of the ball and a capable set-piece taker, providing an additional attacking outlet to the Lilywhites. Certainly, the Argentine prodigy fits into De Zerbi’s game plan.

Once Spurs preserve their top-flight status, the club officials must begin conversations with Madrid for the loan signing of Mastantuono.
