One player who has emerged as a potential option for Tottenham is South American star Paulo Dybala.
In the summer of 2019, Paulo Dybala came close to signing for Spurs. The Premier League side had then agreed to a massive £64.4m fee with Juventus for the forward; however, the move collapsed on transfer deadline day due to complications with his third-party image rights and the Serie A side’s decision not to sell.
There has been a lot of talk around Dybala and his future at AS Roma. After four years in Rome, there is a possibility that the 32-year-old will leave the club on a free transfer. Despite the forward’s age and injury record, the Argentina international is still very highly regarded across the continent.
Now, Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke claims Tottenham will be aware of Dybala’s situation and could look to tempt him to the Premier League if he departs Roma.
“If he doesn’t agree on a new deal with Roma and becomes a free agent, there will be Premier League clubs looking at him,” Pete O’Rourke exclusively said on the Transfer Insider podcast.
“Tottenham have been long-term admirers of him, they tried to get a deal done for him a few years ago now, so I’m sure they will be aware of his situation.
“On his day, he’s a top player, he’s proved that over the years in Serie A previously at Juventus and now at Roma as well. Maybe now, because of his age, it might put a few clubs off, and he has struggled with injuries this season.”

Dybala has been a household commodity in Serie A football for several years now. He has netted 131 goals and supplied 79 assists in 369 Serie A appearances thus far, whilst plundering 22 goal contributions in 53 Champions League outings. So, one can imagine the volumes of experience at the highest level the forward possesses. Plus, the diminutive South American has also won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022. However, at 32. Dybala is far from the force he once was during his peak. The Roma star underwent knee surgery earlier this season, limiting him to only 21 league appearances.
The Argentina international has a very poor injury record, and for a Tottenham side that grappled with injury problems throughout the season, it’d be wise to pass up on Dybala even if he becomes available on a free transfer.
