There is less chaos on the pitch, and the midfield unit looks disciplined and compact. The Italian tactician wants his midfielders to be brave on the ball, recycle possession and take up smart areas to influence the proceedings.
There remain a few concerns, though. Yves Bissouma is out of contract at the end of the season, while Joao Palhinha’s future is uncertain. It is not yet decided whether the North Londoners would trigger the buy option in Palhinha’s loan from Bayern Munich. Thus, there is no surprise that Spurs are aiming to bring in a new central midfielder to improve the squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Tottenham target Curtis Jones’ contract talks with Liverpool reach an impasse
Recent reports suggest that Tottenham have been keeping tabs on Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones ahead of a possible move. The England international has been a key player for Liverpool in recent seasons, and the North London club have taken notice of his progress.
Spurs explored the signing of the one-club man during the January transfer window, although no offer was tabled. Eventually, Curtis Jones, who was also wanted by Inter Milan, decided to stay put at his boyhood club, and Tottenham went ahead with the signing of Conor Gallagher. Now, there is a big possibility the 25-year-old departs Anfield after the season concludes.
According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Liverpool are willing to sell Jones this summer. The midfielder made no progress in contract negotiations with his boyhood club, and Merseyside giants could now look to cash Jones in to avoid losing him for nothing once his contract expires next summer. It’s suggested he could be let go for around €40m.
The English talent has yet to establish himself as a regular starter after breaking into the senior side back in 2019. He has already made over 150 league appearances, and with contract talks reaching an impasse, the 25-year-old would do well to move on and kickstart his career elsewhere.
Win-win situation for both clubs
Should the Liverpool midfielder move to Spurs, it’d be a win-win situation for both clubs. For the Reds, they’d avoid losing Jones for nothing and get a serious PSR boost by selling a former academy player in a ‘pure profit’.
From Tottenham’s perspective, they get a technically secure, tactically versatile and experienced midfielder for a reasonable price. At 25, one would imagine Jones’ best years are ahead of him, so the North Londoners should be able to enjoy his prime. Plus, he will add to the club’s homegrown quota.
