Tottenham are showing interest in a highly-regarded Bundesliga talent.
Roberto De Zerbi has already captured his first two signings as Tottenham Hotspur boss, with attention now moving up the pitch.
Spurs are expected to wrap up the free transfers of Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi and Liverpool great Andy Robertson. Both players are due to depart their respective clubs when their contracts expire at the end of June. Their arrivals will boost the North Londoners’ defensive unit ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Among the numerous problems that dragged Tottenham into genuine danger of relegation was their lack of firepower. Mohammed Kudus was their best attacker in the first half of the season before he got injured in mid-January and never played again. His injury left a gaping hole on the right flank, and none of the attackers managed to fill it. Mathys Tel was in and out of the team, while the likes of Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons suffered ACL injuries.
This left Roberto De Zerbi with scant options out wide during Spurs’ relegation run-in, a position which he will be desperate to fortify in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Tottenham interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt winger
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt winger Jean-Matteo Bahoya who is a speed machine. The German club are not really in a hurry to sell him but have slapped a €70 million price tag on him.
Jean-Matteo Bahoya, who was once compared to Jadon Sancho, ended a productive second season with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he registered four goals and as many assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. The Frenchman’s impressive displays have put several clubs on red alert, with Saudi Pro League duo Al Hilal and Al Ittihad previously expressing their interest.
Eintracht Frankfurt have shown in recent years that they know how to protect their young talents and only sell them for bigger profits. The Bundesliga club are very well aware that they have a valuable asset in their hands in the form of Bahoya, who has shown across two seasons at the Deutsche Bank Park that he is a talented player with high ceiling.
For Tottenham, the appeal is obvious. The 21-year-old’s pace, directness, and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations is precisely the kind of creative, unpredictable wide players that De Zerbi wants for his system to flourish. A left-winger capable of being a nuisance for the opposing defence would address a key problem on the pitch for the Lilywhites.
Frankfurt’s €70 million valuation of Jean-Matteo Bahoya could become an obstacle for Spurs
However, Frankfurt’s €70 million asking price could be a stumbling block for Tottenham in their pursuit of Bahoya. At 21, the wide attacker is still very young and unproven at the highest level. The French youth international has the ingredients in his game to lift Spurs’ attack, but investing a substantial sum for a player so young and coming from a different league is quite risky.
The N17 bosses will have to decide if they are willing to make that level of investment in Bahoya, a mushrooming talent yet with evident room to grow and become a top player. If Tottenham chiefs, along with De Zerbi, feel the Frankfurt starlet can be groomed into a potential superstar, then they must splash the cash to sign him.
