Tottenham have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Premier League star.
Tottenham Hotspur have agreements in place to bring free agents Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi to the club from Liverpool and Bournemouth, respectively, transfers that will bolster their defensive ranks significantly. Reinforcements are also required in attack after the problems they faced in creating and scoring goals this past season.
The quartet of Richarlison, Randal Kolo Muani, Dominic Solanke and Mathys Tel managed just 18 goals between them. In addition to scoring goals, creativity from midfield and wide areas turned out to be a big problem. The long-term injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski had a massive impact on the pitch, as well as the absence of Mohammed Kudus for the entirety of the second half of the season due to a quad problem.
Thus, Roberto De Zerbi wants more quality in his forward line ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. Recent reports suggest Spurs are keeping tabs on Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. The England international enjoyed a productive loan spell at Barcelona, where he netted 14 goals and helped in their league title success.
Barcelona can sign the 28-year-old permanently for £26 million, but have indicated to Manchester United that they are prepared to pay only £13m. The Spanish champions’ financial constraints have opened the door for Marcus Rashford for a potential return to the Premier League.

Rashford’s loan with Barcelona runs until June 15th, giving the Catalans just about two weeks to activate the buy option. If they don’t, he will return to Manchester United. INEOS will then have another decision to make over their academy graduate, who has been selected in the England squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Now, according to a report from the Daily Mirror, Rashford is not interested in joining Tottenham. Man United are also understood to be unwilling to sell him to their Premier League rivals.
The Englishman remains contracted to his boyhood club until 2028 on a deal worth £325,000-a-week. It’s understood Rashford has his heart set on joining Barcelona permanently, but the arrival of his England teammate Anthony Gordon on a big-money deal from Newcastle United has complicated matters further.
However, as far as Spurs are concerned, their picture regarding Rashford has become clear. There is no doubting the United attacker’s quality and experience, and without any hesitation, he would have instantly enhanced Tottenham’s first XI. Having said that, though, the player has no interest in becoming a part of De Zerbi’s project next season.
Perhaps the Lilywhites narrowly escaping relegation and failing to qualify for Europe next term are reasons for the Wythenshawe-born star’s reluctance to join. No matter what, it is enough to suggest that the Tottenham bosses shift their focus to other options to strengthen the forward department.
