Tottenham have announced their first signing of the Roberto De Zerbi era.
Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Andy Robertson on a free transfer following his departure from Liverpool.
The Scotland international has become Spurs’ first summer signing, joining Roberto De Zerbi as part of his squad revamp. Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano gave his ‘here we go’ seal of approval for the experienced left-back’s move to Tottenham last month, with Juventus failing to hijack a transfer.
The North Londoners had previously attempted to negotiate a deal for Andy Robertson in January, but Liverpool blocked the move as they felt they did not have sufficient back-up. Even though Tottenham have since changed head coach, Roberto De Zerbi has given the green light for the 32-year-old to join on July 1 after he made the decision to leave the Reds at the expiration of his contract this month.

It has now been confirmed by Tottenham that Robertson has joined the club on a free transfer from Liverpool.
“Hi Tottenham fans, it’s me, Andy Robertson, here. I’m not in Glasgow; I’m in America preparing for the World Cup,” Robertson said in a video message.
“But I just wanted to send you a quick message to say I cannot wait to play for you guys, I cannot wait to meet you guys, I can’t wait to play in the stadium for the first time in front of you, and I’m already looking forward to next season.”
Roberto De Zerbi expressed his happiness in getting Robertson on board, admiring his qualities over the years.
“Andy is someone I’ve admired for a number of years, and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team,” De Zerbi said in a statement.
“He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us, both on and off the pitch.
“I can’t wait to start working with him and seeing the positive impact he will have on everyone around him.”
Robertson arrives at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following a glittering nine-year career at Anfield, where he made 378 appearances and won several major honours, including the Premier League title twice and the Champions League. The Scot will not only add quality to De Zerbi’s squad, but also bring a winning mentality, leadership and top-level experience.
On a free transfer, the Liverpool great’s acquisition is a shrewd move for the Lilywhites, as De Zerbi looks to take the club back to European contention next term.
