Tottenham are formulating a big-money offer to sign Liverpool star.
As things stand, Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Andy Robertson on a free transfer from Liverpool. The club chiefs are working on several deals, as Roberto De Zerbi aims to reshape an ailing squad that huffed and puffed to stay in the top flight.
The Italian tactician has overseen an encouraging start to the summer, but he is not blind to the gaping holes in his squad. The long-term injury to Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons has left the North London side short of attackers playing off the left channel. Mathys Tel cannot be relied upon due to his youth and inexperience, whereas Randal Kolo Muani will head back to PSG after an underwhelming loan spell.
Thus, De Zerbi is pushing for a proven left-wing option to bolster his team’s forward ranks. Recent reports suggest Spurs are plotting a shock swoop for Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo. The Dutch star had a substandard 2025/26 season, and after head coach Arne Slot’s sacking, he wants to leave Liverpool as well.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are preparing an eye-watering proposal worth €85million to sign Cody Gakpo. De Zerbi feels the 27-year-old would fit into his system very well and lead his team’s offensive department this season.
The Netherlands international wants to end his time in Merseyside, and while Liverpool does not have an urgent need to sell, the player would be willing to listen to proposals that meet his ambitions. To force the Reds to sell Gakpo, Spurs are ready to pay a premium as they want to avoid arduous negotiations that could allow other European clubs to enter the race.
The report adds that Liverpool are reluctant to let go of Gakpo. Losing a proven, versatile and goalscoring attacker would be a big blow for new boss Andoni Iraola to start his era at Anfield. So, the Reds bosses must decide whether to retain the winger’s services or to benefit from a high-profile sale to fund an upgrade.
Undoubtedly, Gakpo would be an exciting addition to De Zerbi’s squad, adding creativity, goals, flair, dynamism and flexibility. He is a player with international pedigree and possesses the qualities to become the leader of Spurs’ offensive department. However, it looks unlikely that the North Londoners would be ready to break the bank for the Dutchman.
A strong World Cup would help raise his stock again, but there is no way our club chiefs are formulating an offer close to €85m to persuade Liverpool to sell the 27-year-old. If Spurs feel he can be a difference-maker, our officials must negotiate down the price and sign Gakpo at a realistic price.
