Ben Jacobs gives exciting update on Tottenham’s transfer plans, shares one position where Spurs will ‘very likely’ sign a star

Tottenham are expected to invest further to fix their defensive problems.

Roberto De Zerbi arrived at Tottenham Hotspur in a difficult position, and he and the club both know that they need reinforcements to head back in the right direction. So far, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi have officially become Spurs players, while a couple of deals remain in the pipeline.

The Italian tactician is targeting reinforcements across multiple positions, with the club prioritising upgrades in defence, midfield and attack. The goalkeeping scenario also continues to be a topic of discussion among the N17 officials.

Spurs are scouring the market for a new No.1 amid Guglielmo Vicario’s uncertain future. Vicario has been heavily linked with a move to Serie A. Napoli have recently expressed an interest in signing the Italian international as they look for a potential Alex Meret replacement.

Ben Jacobs reveals Tottenham’s transfer plans

Reputed journalist Ben Jacobs has given an insight into Tottenham’s transfer plans with an exciting update. He claims that the North Londoners will “very likely” sign a new goalkeeper this summer.

“Yeah, they need to look at the goalkeeper situation. Vicario has interest from both Inter and Juventus. It’s great, by the way, to see Anton Kinsky in form and having played a major role in Tottenham staying up. He made some outstanding saves,” Ben Jacobs said on the Last Word On Spurs podcast.

“So under Igor Tudor, it felt like he was going to go, but now I think it’s a different situation and Tottenham still backs Kinsky to succeed — but could add, of course, a number one goalkeeper; in fact, very likely will.

“And Lucas Chevalier is one name. He joined PSG as the number one goalkeeper and very quickly didn’t become the number one goalkeeper, and now the player is looking to leave.

“They have explored James Trafford as well, but I would say at the moment Newcastle can be considered as the front runners there.”

Lucas Chevalier on Tottenham’s radar

It is well-established by now that PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier is one of Tottenham’s top summer targets. The Frenchman endured an underwhelming debut season in PSG, even though he ended up winning multiple trophies. But, having arrived from LOSC Lille with a big reputation, the 24-year-old lost his place in goal midway through the campaign and never really managed to reclaim it from Matviy Safonov.

Another goalkeeping target is Man City’s James Trafford. The England international is thought to be keen on leaving City in search of regular game time after serving as Gianluigi Donnarumma’s backup this previous season. However, going by Jacobs’ claims, Newcastle United are frontrunners to sign Trafford.

It will be interesting to see which goalkeeper walks through the corridors of the Hotspur Way, or De Zerbi changes his mind and promotes Antonin Kinsky as Tottenham’s new No.1 next season.
