Lucas Bergvall is the only Tottenham Hotspur player to represent Sweden at this showpiece event in America, Canada and Mexico, with Dejan Kulusevski out injured. The 20-year-old came off the bench in the first game against Tunisia, earning valuable 26 minutes. The central midfielder had an underwhelming second season in North London, owing to injury problems and lack of consistency. As a result, he was limited to just 23 Premier League appearances.

Big doubts were hanging over Lucas Bergvall’s selection in the Sweden squad for the World Cup. Fortunately, he recovered from an ankle ligament problem in March and managed to prove his fitness to Potter in the following months.
Ahead of Sweden’s clash with the Netherlands, Benjamin Nygren praised Bergvall and called the Tottenham man one of Sweden’s “greatest ever talents”.
“Lucas is, after all, one of the greatest talents Sweden has ever had. He’s amazing both as a player, and I really like him as a person. We’ve become close,” Benjamin Nygren said in an interview with Fotbollskanalen.
“In a national team, there should be a lot of competition. The more competition, the stronger the team becomes. It’s a good thing.”

Interestingly, Benjamin Nygren has emerged as a target for Tottenham. The creative midfielder enjoyed a fantastic debut season at Celtic, playing a key role in their league and cup double success. The Swede plundered 21 goals and laid on nine assists in 58 appearances for Celtic, thus catching the attention of several across Europe.
