Tottenham are closing in on their fourth summer signing under Roberto De Zerbi.
Tottenham Hotspur continue to push on in the transfer market, with attention now turning to various areas of the field.
Jan Paul van Hecke has become the latest signing, joining the likes of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson as additions to the backline, with Spurs now well-equipped in defence for next season. The N17 chiefs are pushing on for deals to sign Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes in midfield, while interest is there for wingers Savinho and Cody Gakpo. However, work also needs to be done on the goalkeeping front amid speculation surrounding Guglielmo Vicario’s future.
Vicario has found consistency hard to come by in the last couple of seasons. He underwent hernia surgery in March, but after recovering, the Italian found it difficult to reclaim the No.1 spot. The 29-year-old has been attracting interest from Juventus in recent weeks. The Turin giants have turned their attention to the Tottenham goalkeeper after failing to land Liverpool star Alisson Becker.
With Vicario expected to end his three-year stay in N17, Spurs are now preparing for his departure.
Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign Martin Dubravka
According to Football London journalist Alasdair Gold, Tottenham are now in advanced talks to sign Martin Dubravka on a free transfer from Burnley.
Martin Dubravka initially joined Newcastle United from Sparta Prague in January 2018, with the move later made permanent. He made 179 appearances for the Magpies during a seven-year spell before joining Burnley on a free transfer last summer (total of 197 appearances in the PL). The experienced shot-stopper made 35 Premier League appearances this past season, as Burnley were relegated from the top flight.
He is now set for a surprise move to Tottenham. Alasdair Gold adds that Spurs are looking to add experience to their goalkeeping department and provide competition and cover for Antonin Kinsky. The 23-year-old Kinsky could start as the club’s No.1 next season, with Dubravka acting as his understudy.
De Zerbi appears keen to ensure there is sufficient quality available if rotation becomes necessary. With domestic and cup commitments needing a squad with quality depth, Dubravka would be a reliable option to have as the No.2. The Slovakian international’s shot-stopping ability, leadership qualities and commanding in the box make him an attractive short-term option for Tottenham seeking proven top-flight experience.
On a free transfer, Dubravka would be a safe signing for De Zerbi’s side.
