Martin Dubravka recently completed a move to Tottenham.
Martin Dubravka has spoken for the first time since joining Tottenham Hotspur, describing the move as an exciting new journey for both himself and his family while expressing genuine admiration for Roberto De Zerbi’s footballing philosophy and the club’s standing in English football.
The Slovakian goalkeeper’s arrival adds an experienced and versatile option to Tottenham’s goalkeeping department at a moment when significant uncertainty surrounds the position, with Guglielmo Vicario having conceded 50 or more Premier League goals in two of the last three seasons and Napoli continuing to monitor his situation.
De Zerbi’s stated preference for goalkeepers comfortable in possession and capable of contributing to build-up play has also seen the club explore moves for Bart Verbruggen and James Trafford throughout the summer, making the goalkeeping picture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium one of the more fluid areas of the squad.
Dubravka was warm and enthusiastic in his opening comments to the club. He said (h/t Spurs Insight on X):
“It’s an exciting time for me, a new journey and new experience for me and my family. I’m looking forward to it.”
His admiration for De Zerbi’s methods was clear, suggesting the move was driven by genuine appreciation for the head coach’s work rather than simply accepting an available opportunity. He continued:
“Everything moved pretty quickly, and I’m really happy to be here. I’ve loved watching Roberto’s teams over the years and know all about his style, vision, and the fantastic fans here.”
Martin Dubravka Praises Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham Vision
The reference to having followed De Zerbi’s teams over the years reflects the wider reputation the Italian has built throughout his career at Sassuolo, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sassuolo again, Brighton, and Marseille. His possession-based, technically demanding approach has earned admiration across the game, and Dubravka’s comments suggest he arrives already understanding what will be expected of him within that system.
His final message captured the scale of what joining Tottenham represents. Dubravka concluded:
“Tottenham Hotspur is one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and I can’t wait to meet everyone and get started.”
The signing provides De Zerbi with experienced goalkeeping depth and competition as the rebuild continues across every department of the squad. Whether Dubravka arrives as a long-term competitor for the number one shirt or as reliable cover while the club continues its pursuit of a more permanent solution remains to be seen, but his enthusiasm for the project gives an encouraging early impression.
