Tottenham face competition from newly-promoted EPL team for 25-year-old Belgium midfielder

Tottenham have revived their interest in a player currently on World Cup duty.

Tottenham Hotspur have been working hard behind the scenes on multiple deals, looking to strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s squad further to compete in the Premier League next season.

Four signings have been completed since the start of June, with three of those arriving as free agents. After reshaping the backline with three defenders and a goalkeeper, focus has now shifted to the midfield unit.

Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali has emerged as Tottenham’s priority midfield target. Spurs have already tested Newcastle United’s resolve with an opening bid, but that proposal was deemed insufficient and swiftly rejected. Their second approach to reconsider the £75m bid was also rebuffed by the Magpies earlier this week.

Tottenham face competition from newly-promoted club for Rangers star

The Lilywhites also have other midfield targets. One of those is Nicolas Raskin of Rangers. Spurs have extensively scouted the Rangers star for the last 18 months. The central midfielder, currently with the Belgium squad on World Cup duty, wants to seek a new adventure after two and a half years at the Ibrox.

This has put several clubs across Britain and Europe on red alert. According to a report from TEAMtalk, newly-promoted Hull City have registered strong interest in Nicolas Raskin. Playing in the Premier League remains the tenacious midfielder’s No.1 ambition as he seeks a fresh challenge away from Rangers.

Hull City have made an initial approach, viewing the 25-year-old as an option to bolster their midfield for the Premier League challenge. The Belgium international has been a key figure for Rangers ever since he made the move from Standard Liege in January 2023, racking up 13 goals and 23 assists in 145 appearances. And the player’s reputation has been enhanced further following his showings at the ongoing World Cup.

Valued at over £20 million, Raskin would represent an excellent value for money signing for any club he joins. He has caught the eye with his tenacity, work ethic, technical quality and goalscoring in Scotland, and there is no reason why he cannot flourish in the Premier League.

Having monitored his progress at the Ibrox for almost 18 months, Tottenham must now decide whether to battle Hull City for Raskin’s signature. A player of his quality and international pedigree could make De Zerbi’s squad more robust. With Pape Matar Sarr the subject of enquiries from European clubs, Spurs must target the Rangers man if the Senegalese international departs.
