Tottenham are pushing hard to sign Newcastle United midfielder.
Martin Dubravka has become the latest player to arrive at Tottenham Hotspur, bolstering the defensive unit further. The experienced glovesman is expected to act as Antonin Kinsky’s understudy next season, with Guglielmo Vicario likely to be sold.
After rebuilding the backline, Roberto De Zerbi wants more ambitious additions to other areas of the pitch. Midfield in particular appears to be the main priority in recent days, with the Tottenham boss pushing for the signing of Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali.
It is an open secret by now that talks are ongoing with Newcastle United over a deal for Sandro Tonali. The 26-year-old has emerged as our gaffer’s key target for the position. Spurs’ first bid in the region of £75million was rejected by the Magpies last week, but that did not deter their hopes of landing the player.
Newcastle United reject Tottenham Hotspur’s ‘second approach’ for Sandro Tonali
The North London club bosses were planning to launch a second offer this week. However, according to an exclusive report from the Daily Mail, Spurs did not improve their original offer of £75million for Tonali but asked Newcastle United to reconsider. This was quickly rebuffed by the Magpies.
The Toon Army are looking for a total package of £100million for the Italian, and so far, Spurs have not come closer to that price range. De Zerbi is determined to make Tonali a part of his midfield setup next season, admiring the 26-year-old’s technical quality, work ethic, energy and leadership qualities. The Italian tactician feels his compatriot can transform his team’s engine room, which was outsmarted and outwitted several times by the opponents last season.
However, the North Londoners’ decision not to make any improvements on their opening offer for the player is bizarre. Our officials once again knocked on the doors of Newcastle without upping the bid does not make sense. Having known Tonali’s valuation by now, Spurs failing to present an acceptable package may not go down well at St James’ Park.
As the Italian international still has two years remaining on his contract, Newcastle have every right to stay firm on their valuation. The onus is on us to come closer to the Magpies’ £100million price tag. Having seen a second approach knocked back, we will see how our officials react.
With the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City also interested, Tottenham simply cannot afford to dillydally when cracking a deal for a player so desperately wanted by our gaffer.
