Tottenham backed to reach compromise with Newcastle United over their £100m star

Tottenham are ready to smash their transfer record by signing Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali.

After restructuring the backline with the acquisitions of three defenders and a goalkeeper, Tottenham Hotspur boss Roberto De Zerbi now wants a midfield revamp.

Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali has emerged as Roberto De Zerbi’s marquee midfield target of the summer transfer window. Spurs’ opening offer, worth around £75m, was swiftly rejected by Newcastle United, but that has done little to deter them from continuing their pursuit. Surprisingly, the Hotspur Way bosses made a second approach to the Magpies, asking them to reconsider the first offer. The Newcastle United chiefs, unsurprisingly, quickly rebuffed the approach.

Reliable Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has revealed that Tottenham will table a new bid this week to try to find an agreement with Newcastle for Sandro Tonali, who is keen to work with De Zerbi. Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United remain in the mix, but none of them are ready to meet the Toon Army’s eye-watering £100m asking price. The same case remains with Spurs as well.

John Wenham backs Tottenham to reach a compromise with Newcastle over Sandro Tonali

Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham feels Tottenham will end up reaching a compromise over Tonali’s fee with Newcastle. He believes that the North London club will pay what the Magpies want, but it would not be £100m.

“£100m is an incredibly high amount of money, but what I am pleased to see is that Tottenham are getting their business done early and not baulking at clubs putting high valuations,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.

“If they’re saying they want a player, they’re going out and doing it. We’ve seen that already with paying £52m for Van Hecke. I think Tottenham will pay the price Newcastle ask for Tonali.

“But I don’t think it will be £100m. I think around £85m should be enough, which is still a lot of money, but if you’ve made clear that Roberto De Zerbi wants the player, and on that basis, based on what I’ve seen with Van Hecke, I believe the board will go out and sign the player. I think he will be a Tottenham player.”

Tottenham want to make a statement with Tonali signing

Fans have been highly critical of Tottenham’s transfer business for several years. They have time and again asked ENIC to show ambition in the transfer market and to back the managers, but their emotions have carried little weight. Things are changing this summer, though.

It is not even July, and the board have already wrapped up four signings. One would argue that three of those are free signings, but the groundwork they had created for the Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson deals demonstrates their intent to do things differently this time around.

The N17 bosses are now doing everything possible to secure Tonali’s signature. The proposed fee to lure the Italian away from St James’ Park is set to be in the £100m ballpark, in what would be a massive statement of intent from our club. As it is a mega deal to get over the line, fans have to be patient. Going by the noises emanating from the top media outlets, Spurs are ready to break the bank for Tonali and send a message across the Premier League that they mean business.
