Tottenham prepare new bid for Sandro Tonali after second approach rejected by Newcastle United

Tottenham are set to table a new bid for Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali.

It has been rumoured for several months that Sandro Tonali feels his time at Newcastle United is coming to an end, and he is ready for the next step in his career. This has put several clubs across England and Europe on red alert, including Tottenham Hotspur.

Sandro Tonali has emerged as Spurs’ top target, and Roberto De Zerbi is eager to bring his Italian compatriot to White Hart Lane. The 26-year-old is a highly sought-after commodity in this summer transfer window, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United known admirers.

The Lilywhites are acting on back-to-back dire domestic campaigns, only escaping relegation to the Championship on the final day of the 2025/26 season. And the Lewis Family want to make a statement by signing Tonali from Newcastle United, helping De Zerbi build a squad capable of competing for a top-four finish next season.

Tottenham prepare new bid for Sandro Tonali

Spurs bizarrely made a second approach for Tonali earlier this week, asking Newcastle to reconsider their opening £75m bid for Tonali. The Magpies swiftly rebuffed the approach, reiterating they will not consider anything below the £100million package for the Italian midfielder.

The North London club are aiming to strike a deal below the £100million asking price. Now, according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira on X, Tottenham will submit a new bid for Tonali this week. Spurs are pushing to agree a deal with Newcastle, having internally reached a broad agreement on a six-year contract with the 26-year-old’s agent.

Two Premier League clubs are credited with interest in the box-to-box midfielder, which could derail Spurs’ transfer plans. The Hotspur Way chiefs are wary of that and have accelerated their pursuit of De Zerbi’s primary midfield target. However, none of these clubs are willing to meet Newcastle’s mammoth asking price either.

Tonali was no doubt one of the Toon Army’s star players last season. The Italian international picked up two assists in 35 Premier League outings and put in plenty of eye-catching displays. As a result, the interest in the Lodi-born talent is not unexpected, as Eddie Howe aims to revive Newcastle’s fortunes after a disappointing 12th-place finish.

Fans will be intrigued to see the size of the second bid Tottenham end up tabling for Tonali. As De Zerbi is very keen to work with the former AC Milan star, our club officials must aim to wrap up a deal for him as quickly as possible.
