Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall is working with his representatives to secure a move away from north London this summer after growing concerned over a potential lack of first-team minutes under Roberto De Zerbi.
According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, relayed by Chris Cowlin on X, the Swedish starlet faces significantly reduced playing time following Tottenham’s extensive summer recruitment drive. This looming bottleneck has prompted the player’s entourage to explore an exit strategy, sparking heavy interest from across Europe.
Di Marzio revealed that Napoli are among the most interested suitors in Italy. The Serie A club initially attempted to understand the parameters of a deal, hoping an offer of around €30 million to €35 million, or a potential loan bid, might tempt Spurs. However, the Italian giants eventually concluded that, at most, they could only put together a package totaling €40 million, which falls short of Tottenham’s strict valuation.
Premier League Interest Triggers Strict Price Tag
While Napoli have hesitated at the overall cost, severe concrete interest has materialized closer to home within the Premier League. Di Marzio confirmed that Tottenham recently knocked back a substantial opening bid for the young midfielder (h/t Chris Cowlin on X):
“Tottenham recently rejected €50m, likely from an English club, likely Nottingham Forest. And I don’t think they’ll go below that threshold. It will always take €50m or more.”
The club’s absolute refusal to budge below that €50 million mark highlights their firm stance in the market. Backed by a recent £100 million capital injection from the Lewis family, the Spurs hierarchy is under no financial duress to sell their young assets on the cheap.
The fierce competition for midfield places is only expected to intensify as Tottenham continue their aggressive pursuit of primary engine-room targets Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.
