Tottenham have plans to make some sales of key players to help aid the rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi.
Tottenham Hotspur have already spent £52 million to secure the signing of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton and Hove Albion, whilst picking up the likes of Martin Dubravka, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson on free transfers.
On Tuesday, reputable journalist David Ornstein confirmed that Spurs have agreed a club-record £85 million fee with West Ham for the signing of Mateus Fernandes. They have beaten Manchester United to the race for the one-cap Portuguese international, who has already agreed personal terms with the North Londoners.
There is further spending expected, with talks ongoing to sign Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali for a fee that could reach up to a package of £100 million. After bringing in new faces in the middle of the park, attention could switch to the forward line. A centre-forward and winger are on the club’s agenda to help boost the productivity in the team, but given the lack of European football for next season, funds may have to be raised with sales to further back Roberto De Zerbi.
Tottenham ready to offload four players
According to an exclusive report from Football Fancast, Tottenham are preparing for four key exits this summer. They are ready to listen to offers for Cristian Romero, Lucas Bergvall, Guglielmo Vicario and Richarlison to raise £150m to aid their squad rebuild.
Cristian Romero, the club captain, has been heavily linked with an exit. It would be no surprise to see the 2022 World Cup winner leave after the additions of Van Hecke and Senesi last month. The 28-year-old is wanted by La Liga clubs Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, but at this moment, nothing is advanced over a move for Romero.
Lucas Bergvall has expressed his desire to take up a new challenge after he struggled to become a regular starter in midfield last season. With the Lilywhites having agreed a fee for Fernandes and pursuing Tonali, Bergvall’s minutes could be impacted further. The Swede, currently on World Cup duty, is wanted by the likes of Nottingham Forest and Napoli. Spurs have slapped a €50m asking price on the 20-year-old.
Following Bergvall could be Guglielmo Vicario. The Italian international has failed to establish himself as a reliable goalkeeper across three seasons in North London, and with the club recently announcing a new deal for Antonin Kinsky and signing the experienced Dubravka as his backup on a free transfer from Burnley, Vicario’s time at Spurs appears to be up. He is wanted by Serie A duo Juventus and Napoli.
The report adds that Richarlison is the fourth player who could depart Tottenham. The North Londoners want £30 million to sell the Brazilian forward, who has entered the final year of his contract.
Backed by a recent £100 million capital injection from the Lewis family, the Tottenham hierarchy is expected to continue backing De Zerbi in the transfer market. And if they can sell the aforementioned players for the quoted prices, De Zerbi might welcome further quality players to the Hotspur Way this summer.
